Need some French to English Translation on some gun terms
      #133952 - 30/04/09 10:54 AM

I've tried putting the terms into a translator, but it just gives me the "raw" translation (which is sometimes quite funny) I need to know what they actually refer to in the gun world.

These images are of verney-carron double options, and I would like to ask my dealer if he can order a rifle with these options, but I want to make sure I'm using the right terms.

I know for instance the last one is a Skeleton Butt Plate, but I want to be sure that's what there calling it in the catalog

Thanks.

This is old wording from gunsmithing vernacular not found in common language. It must surely correspond with some oldish British terms, which I don't know. I will therefore concentrate on the meaning. Let's have a go :

- queue de bascule type écureuil = squirrel type upper receiver tang ;
- découpe à bavette sur bascule - queue de pontet façonnée = undercut receiver - sculptured triggerguard tang ;
- gravure personnalisée, découpe à bavette sur bascule, pontet à double cordon = custom engraving, undercut receiver, triggerguard with double ribbon ;
- capuche + oeillet façonné = sculptured hood + eyelet ;
- longuesse d'un superposé Eloge avec sulpture en option et oeillet façonné = forend from an "Eloge" o/u with optional sculpture and carved eyelet ;
- réservoir à cartouches = cartridge trap ;
- talon acier ajouré = skeletton butt plate.

I hope this will help.

3 shots do not make a group, they show a point of aim or impact.
5 shots are a group.

Thanks Andre,

Those help, a lot, I really like the "Squirrel Type Upper receiver tang" and the "Triggergaurd tang" I want to make sure if I order one that I get those.

I believe that a more proper interpretation than "triggerguard with double ribbon" might be "rolled edge triggerguard, both sides".
