Chain shot
      #13361 - 12/04/04 10:21 AM

On the subject of strange/crappy shotgun loads, has anyone heard about the 'chain-shot' recently re-introduced according to the March edition of Australian Shooter. It was originally used against air ships and the sails of ships to tear the material. To quote the magazine

'From an American catalouge shown to me recently, it seems that 12-gauge chain shot is now commercially available. With the current scarsity of both Zeppelins and wooden line-of-battle ships, one could be excused for wondering why'

If anyone can think of a reason why this would exist would you please tell me. Also has anyone used them...

look up "dragons breath cartridges" and you will find a site that has every sort of ammo imaginable including the chain shot

Gryphon is right. Some states in the USA have shotgun cartridges available with multiple finned darts, tracer, incendinary, parachute flare, exploding projectile etc etc instead of normal shot or slugs. Dozens of different options. I wonder how effective these are as you never hear of them in normal use. I would love exploding projectile (air burst) 12 g shells for use in bird scaring on crops. Even better if they produce shrapnel .

Acquiring a milsurp rifle is a lot like dating. If the appearance is pleasing, you pick it up. Upon further examination, if you like the feel and smell of it, you take it home.

The exploding shells are used to scare away pest flocks. They work OK but hungry flocks get used to them. The rest of those novelties only fascinate people who don't understand the truly awesome potential of conventional shotgun loads.

Dear all,

I once saw two cement filled beer cans with some link chain between used in the early 70's; just some biker war games.

(Phil Noyce was the man who shot this as "Castor and Pollux").

regards

K
