Hunting with Cheetahs in India. Sadly the beautiful cat is now extinct in India.

Great film!

Just wondering, has there ever been a confirmed human death from a cheetah attack?

Wonderful bit of film, the American writer Dan Mannix had a tame cheetah in the 50s apparantly they tame down sort of ok. Cant say I have ever heard of an unprovoked attack maybe our African members
can assist

I have a book by Dan Mannix, "A sporting chance" from recollection, in which he details all kinds of wild beasts that he trained to hunt for him.. cats of various types and fish catching tame otters from memory!

Didn't they use cheetahs for hunting in the middle east?

Does anyone still use domesticated big cats for hunting?

What a great film! Very good footage & quality for the time.

That is coursing! Certainly more spectacular than running sight hounds after hare.
Also struck me as very like hunting hawks/falcons from the fist.

There certainly was some great sport to be had for the wealthy on the sub continant!

Does anyone know if there is any video footage of pig sticking in India? Kadir Cup etc.

Joe

Thats the book I was thinking of.

I think you are right re the Middle East certainly Ottoman tapestry etc show Cheetah coursing.

Actually re the use of sighthounds Col. Ted Walsh tells an interesting tale of coursing Black Buck
in India before the second war with a Rampuri/saluki hybrid in his book "Lurchers and Longdogs"
(well worth a read)
