Gun stock oil?
      #13086 - 06/04/04 05:41 AM

I am curious what type of gunstock oil anyone might suggest I use on my Kreighoff .470NE? As I understand it, I shouldn't oil it all that often, maybe once or twice a year or after some heavy use but I would like to make sure I am using the correct oil. Any and/or all thoughts would be appreciated.

All the best,
AKPH

It depends on whether your Krieghoff has an oil finish on it or the usual urethane. You can't mix the two as they are incompatible.

475Guy,

Thanks for the reply. I called Krieghoff and they said that my rifle has an oil finish on the Turkish walnut stock. Of course they were willing to sell me some Krieghoff stock oil but I was wondering if there was an appropriate oil I could simply purchase here in Alaska?

I treat all of my wood gunstocks with Birchwood Casey Gunstock Wax. I apply several coats. Works good for me.

Don't use finish on a finished stock, all that gets you is a gummy cheek!!

Use wax or even some furniture polishes work ok...The carnuba waxes from Birchwood Casey work real well..and Brownells has some nice waxes...
