info on a Peter Hambrusch comb. gun
      #121911 - 22/12/08 07:49 PM

For once I'm caught flatfooted with no pictures but i picked up a little Austrian o/u in 16ga./7x57 and haven't been able to find anything on him. I'll get photos soon. It's a nice little gun with good engraving, 24" bbls. Has a 2 9/16" chamber and plain extractor. Comes with single kersten top fastener and bushed firing pins. cocking indicators and claw mounts. Both bores are like mint. By the proofs I,m guessing pre 1930. Inlaid in the rib is Peter Hambrusch, Steyr Any info or leads?
thanks

Ah, in Steyr.

Google brought up this:

http://www.ris.at/homes/magsteyr/amtsblatt/2006/amtsblatt2006-03.pdf

See page 32 - Vor 50 Jahren - 50 years ago.
Peter Hambrusch, gunmaker and arms dealer dies, etc.

Fuhrmann and Mouse93,

thanks for the leads, I was counting on you guys. :^)

Tom,

I'm working on loads now. The guy who lets me borrow his camera is out of town but I've left him a dozen messages. My hateful wife said I couldn't sleep with it after the first night. :^) Gonna show her, I'll sleep in the den.

Dale,

I you had difficulty reading the text, the translation is approximately this:

"On the 23 of March, 1956, following a long and difficult illness, the gunmaker and gun dealer Peter Hambrusch passed away. The deceased descended from a family of gun makers in Ferlach/Kaernten. He came to Steyr in 1913 as a specialist in army weapons. In 1919 he opened a workshop and store in the Mittere Gasse, which he transferred to the Gruenemarkt in 1930."

Wonderful buy, by the way!

Bill

There is a chance that the gun was made in Ferlach, and then was sold by Hambrusch in Steyr.
The Ferlach proof house may be able to give more information.

Gentlemen,Thank you again.  I couldn't get the bablefish to sort it out and had been fighting with a small dictionary translator of Dad's with little results.   I haven't got to shoot it yet but have got Dad started making a set of claw mounts and a peep so it will probably become my main go to gun.
