ThermaCELL bug protection

Just wondering if anyone has ever used one of these things to keep African bugs at bay. It receives rave reviews from Alaska, keeping skeeters and no-see-ums away very well.

Also curious whether you are able to put them in your checked luggage.

I will do some digging with the airlines to try and find out. Anyone that has already flown with them, please chime in.

answered my own question. They have a small butane cylinder that it uses to heat the bug stuff. Don't think the airlines would see the funny side of flying with that.

I used mine in SA. worked good, but it also came over as a sea shipment.

Are butane lighters available in Africa?

I doubt they will work effectively for Tsetse flies. Also, this device is made for stand hunting, not walking around and thus also ineffective in windy environments. That said, it might be effective for sleeping if you do not have netting.

I've tried bushmans plus, with 80% DEET in Tanzania against Tsetse flies forget it nothing works against them.
