Leupold VX III 2.5-8x36mm
      #120032 - 02/12/08 10:37 AM

Hello Folks,

The Leupold VX III 2.5-8x36mm scope with duplex reticle and matte finish is on sale at Midway for $340. I've never seen these on sale before. They are, in my opinion, the best all-around hunting scope on the market. Just FYI.

Take care, Tom

They are definitely a good scope. I've got one on my .30-'06 Ruger Express and don't think there's a better all-around scope for an all-around rifle & cartridge.

I just learned that some companies are also selling Leupold factory seconds. These are even less espensive, and the blemishes are cosmetic. They carry the full Leupold warranty.

Tatume, do you think Leupold would really allow a third party to see "seconds" in their own products ? I don't believe it, best, Mike

I take it you think these 'seconds' are not Leupolds at all, Mike. SSAA's magazine just ran an article on counterfeit Leupold scopes and how to spot them.

Leupold VX 111 are being discontinued with a new model due out in 2009 apparently. Expect plenty of sales...

If MidwayUSA is selling them I wouldn't have any concerns about them being the real deal. No way they'd risk their place as one of the top shooting retailers by peddling counterfeit junk.

FYI---Midway does have some 'factory blemished" leupold scopes for sale on their web site---they are NOT trying to pull anything however..as you stated, they are a top notch dealer...it clearly states this on the ones that are so...there are the unblemished scopes for sale as well..as Tatume mentioned..you can get a 2.5-8 VX III for a very good price right now along with others as well...

It is true, they are coming out with an "updated" model sometime in 2009 which is why these are going out at such a reduced price.

I'm surprised Leupold let "factory blemished" scopes onto the market, the "deep discount to make way for new model" I can believe, best, Mike

Yikes!!

Seriously...do you think they are going the route of Burris, eliminating their middle range/upper mid range US production and going to foreign production to meet the bulk of their sales, leaving only top-end production in the USA?

I certainly hope not! The foreign-made Burris scopes are awful, and the U.S.A. production followed the lead. My experience with Burris went from excellent to horrible, with no transition through the middle.

Take care, Tom

Man I hope not--hoping that this is similar to what they did a couple years ago when they upgraded the VX II--and gave it most of the features the III had previously..thinking maybe HD glass might be one of the options as so many others are heading that way...will try to find out as I am sending in 2 scopes to them this week to have long range turrets installed by their custom dept...will advise if I "gleam' any new info..

Talked to Leupold--supposedly they are beefing up the internal mechanics of the III as well as better glass..I quized if it was going to be along HD and he would not give me an definitive answer..

Suppose to be out early 2009--which probably means late 2009...

FYI---got a flyer last evening from Cabela's..as much as I don't like to use them--they have a very good sale on Swarovski's and Leupold VX-7 and III's...the american line of swarovski's were about 25% off..

Rotten weather!

We love it!!

Here's Junior shooting the prone series on the Army alternate pistol course of fire {a good freshener after no pistol-shooting during elk and deer seasons} this afternoon up at the range. Wind's blowing like a bugger, snowing off and on.
