Remington M14 1/2 on British sevice.
      #120021 - 02/12/08 07:10 AM

Im looking for information and pictures about the use of the slideaction Remington M 14 1/2 by British Navy on First World War.
Remington send some .44-40 Win. carbines (via Canada??) during the 1st World War to GB and I have hear that some carbines went to Australia.
Have you seen any?
Thanks
Martin

BTW: I have a .30 Rem. M14R carabine and would like to share some pictures.

You, Sir, have a really neat old gun!!

I hope it is still taking a deer or whatever down there from time to time!

Not Navy , but I have one from Australia . NSW Goals , prison service in 38/40 !

I had one M14 1/2 in 38/40 also with the saftey like your one , very bad idea for a safty , would even slide it's self on at the wrong time !

Thanks for your photo , I have some bases , but didn't know where they fitted , I'm going to fit them to my 44/40 Carbine one day !

Heres a good goat I shot with a mint 38/40 using 10mm 180gr slugs , they had a big hollow point & blow up !

Thanks Sarg.!!!!
Im helping a friend doing a reserch on Remingtons M14 and M14 1/2.
Can you share some information?
Do you have this .38-40 rifle and a .44-40 Carbine?
May i use your picture in my article about slide action rifles?
Thanks
Martin

BTW:
I would think twice before drilling a M14 1/2 for scope because it is a very costly rifle.
Take a look at gunbrocker, they are asking more than 2K for battered carbines.

Martin ,

I have 4 Model 14 1/2s , 1 38/40 from NSW Goals very rough 1 44/40 Carbine also rough & 2 44/40 rifles , the mint one (in the photo)was 38/40 since sold (I hated the saftey) I had 3 Model 25s in 25/20 & 32/20 , just kept one 32/20 rifle , all the Remington pumps I have had with good barrels are very accurate !

I have a Ok Mod 14 in 30 Rem with worn barrel & a bitser which I'm going to make a 44 Mag on , I may use scope bases on that one eh !

Right now theres a 44/40 for sale here for NZ$550 to $600 in what looks to be good nick !

I took a digital photo of a picture as to post it , so it's a bit rough , but I suppose you can use it !

Do you want me to shoot some animals tomorrow with the other rifles ?

Pardon my ignorance, but will somebody please tell me the difference between the Remington M14, M14 1/2, and the M141.

I have never owned one of these sleek slide actions, but they have caught my eye from time to time.

Thanks in advance,
Curl

Curl,
The Remington Model 14, introduced in 1912, and was chambered for the Remington cartridges developed some years before, the .25 Rem., .30 Rem., .32 Rem. and the famous .35 Rem.
They also develope the M14 1/2, almost the same rifle but chambered for the .44-40 and .38-40 Winchesters.
Production of the M14 1/2 cease about 1920 IIRC and the M14 was replaced by the M141 by 1936. The Remington M141 was little heavier than the M14 and have some shortcuts to reduce production costs.
Three of the Remington cartridges emulate some Winchester cartridge (were almost identical)but rimless. The .25 Rem. the same ballistic as the .25-35, the .30 Rem. as the .30-30 and the .32 Rem. as the .32 Win.Special.
Thanks for your interes
Martin

Just a note here Spitzer bullets could be used in tube mag because of neat twist that keeped the points off centre , on Mod 14 ! !

Martin,

Thanks for taking the time for your explanation. I knew that one of the actions was designed for shorter pistol cartridges, but I couldn't remember which.

I always have liked the spiral magazine concept in the M 14 and M 141. Long ago one of my firearms mentors pointed out that design to me. It is an improvement on the straight Winchester and Marlin magazine tubes.

Interesting rifles for sure!

Martin

It won't be of any help but I'm posting a couple pictures of a 14 1/2 carbine in 38-40 I have. It was in bad shape when I found it but the bore was fine so I had Charles Danner reblue it and I did the wood. The story I got was the man's Uncle was a deputy sheriff and had used it in a robbery shoot out where several bad guys bought it. I really enjoyed seeing your and Sarg's rifles, I love the old remingtons. I have seen several old West Virginia prison issue guns and they were the old Winchester 351 self-loading rifles.

Martin ! I think he's talking to you !

Dale :I apologize if I went too far posting that ? might have over steped the "killing" side !

Really these rifles for some reason are "very" accurate , thats the reason I started getting them , the frist one I came across put 5 bullets in the same hole at 25 yards & 1 bigger hole for 10 shots as fast as I could pump them out , a lot better than my old 92 Win !

I could have shot the Gobblers head off , but that would be too much to post ?

Hey Sarge,

My post was meant to be complimentary. Such as that hot woman is a killer!!! The only thing better than a gun or hunting picture is one combined. :^) They are just harder to get for me :^)

I'm going to post a couple more but rather than trash up this thread I'll start another.
