Pre War period correct H&H finnish and trigger
      #118774 - 13/11/08 03:47 AM

What kind of finish would be period correct for a pre war H&H rifle?
Would it be rust blue?

What about the trigger, did H&H replace it or did they rework the military trigger on the pre war rifles?

In the pictures and catalogs that I have found, they left the charger hump and the flag safety. So was
wondering if they just reworked the mil trigger?

Allen

Allen-
I would suspect that rust blue would be the correct finish, but I was under the impression that the big-name English makers used commercial Mauser actions to build their rifles, not re-worked military ones. That said, I'm not sure there is any difference between commercial and military triggers on original Mauser actions.

The Brits used both commercial and mil actions for their magazine rifles. I've seen Holland's with both. The correct barrel and action finish is a traditional rust blue (NOT a matte "rust like" blue!). I've also seen other makes use a carbonia finish on trigger guards such as used on the trigger guards of doubles. As for triggers I've seen mostly a reworked military/commercial trigger on the the vintage H&H pieces and I've seen aftermarket triggers on newer rifles.

oil finish on the wood rust blue and nitre blue on the spring steel parts, the feed ramps would be polished white , i have seen some english guns with an almost black finish which i believe is a hot process most of these cases were refinished guns the triggers were almost always reworked military unless it was an original oberndorf with set triggers or single trigger in that case it is still military configuration just made to be smoother ...paul
