This is primarily aimed at our German friends:
For those unfamiliar with the term, a "G-Wagen" or Gelaendewagen is a SUV type vehicle built as a joint project by Mercedes and Steyr-Daimler-Puch, which was the European version of the jeep. It was also the basis of the "Popemobile" used for years by His Holiness. It was originally a very basic 4WD vehicle, with 5 speed transmission, transfer case, differential locks, high ground clearance, and available in a 2.4 and 3 liter engine version, as well as a diesel version in both engine sizes. The more recent models are more luxurious and are equipped with larger V-8 engines and automatic transmissions.
I have been driving a 1985 Mercedes 300GD for some time now. It was a "gray market" vehicle brought in by a private owner before Mercedes started marketing the "G-Wagen" in the US. Unfortunately, Mercedes only stocks spare parts for vehicles which it sold in this country and the former importer of G-Wagens, which Mercedes effectively put out of business, is no longer available as a parts source.
My question is, can anyone refer me to a German source of new or used parts for my "oldie"?

That can be tough. I used to have a gray Market 1986 500SEC. I loved that car as it didn't have all the crap the US version (560 SEC) had. I sold it for the same reason, no parts.

For parts in the US (or anywhere in the world), check there:

Vlad has always been very helpful, I used to order parts from him when in Nigeria.
He also has a store on eBay.
