8 Bore Rifle
      #118633 - 10/11/08 10:58 AM

At Steve's(szihn) encouragement I'm posting these pics up. I was going to build this as a speculation gun, but Steve said that due to the caliber I really should build it to fit someone, and he's right this really needs to be built to fit.
So here's what I have:
8 Bore rifled barrel 1:104 twist, it's already been machined, turned down and fitted to a P. Allan boxlock action. I already have the ball mould from Jeff Tanner. The wood is a nice piece of maple.

The drawings show two different butts, one with a Pachmeyr decelerator and the other with a more traditional iron buttplate.

If you are interested, PM me or email me cstolzer338"at"hotmail.com (replace "at" with @)we can discuss the details.

I really like the style with the iron butt. The butt cries English, but the comb angle is more Hawken - so it's a cross. The double barrel keys also represent the ultimate for muzzleloaders of the American West. I find the action quite interesting. I've not seen one in person, just pictures of original rifles of this style. I'd place the rear sight a bit more foreward. Guess I'll have to google up P. Allen and see what's up with that action. Hope he has a web site.
; After checking 8 pages of google - no luck - gave up.

Bore choice and rifling are perfect, but alas, not for me.
Very nice - it will be a SUPER hunting rifle when finished.

As far as I know he doesn't have a website. He offers another style of action that is for smaller calibers (.66cal and smaller), I have one of those waiting in my shop for a future build. You can see the other action here: Allan Boxlock
He also builds other M/Ler locks like the "Becky's Lock" offered by R.E. Davis.
