I enjoyed a nice Bolivar No. 2 last night along with several Sumatran cigarettos. Paying the price today.

I like Cuban Bolivars and Montecristos. Cuaba are also good. Plus a whole bunch of others which the winery I used to work for sold in its cellar door.

As a sundowner I enjoy a nice cold anise or anisette spirit and Coke. Perhaps a Southern Comfort. Sometimes a vodka. I do like a Tawny or Vintage Port as well, but partake much too rarer. Must get back into drinking port. After dinner a Sambucca, black or white with three coffee beans and good coffee goes well with a cigar.

A very special fortified wine is a Pedro Ximines which I have several bottles of. A white fortified made from the grapes sherries are made from, but not made like a sherry, instead a white fortified. Very nice.

Cognac such as Remy Martin and Courvousier is also quite drinkable.

Haven't found a Scotch I enjoy yet.

I knew there had to be some cigar lovers on this website. As far as Port goes, I enjoy a tawny much more than a ruby. I also like Guiness, a good single malt scotch, and some wines. I'm going to have to try some of NirtoX's suggestions. I'm no wine conoisseur, I just try different ones here and there and try to keep track on the ones I like.

As for cigars I LOVE Graycliff and Davidoff's. But there are so many that I like, such as:
Onyx box pressed
Cohiba esplendido
Monticristo torpedo
Romeo y Julieta
Avo
CAO maduro torpedo
Afuente hemmingway's
Bolivar churchills

I'm not sure of you guy's experiences with cuban cigars but I'll take a good dominican cigar over a cuban any day. I have read that since the cuban economy is doing so poorly they aren't letting the tobacoo age properly and to me it shows.

NitroX: how do you make that drink with the coffee?

Chivas Regal "ROYAL SALUTE" 21 year old nectar is my choice and i am very partial to the PEDRO XIMENEZ "MUSCAT SUPERIOR" AFTER DINNER SYRUP.
Give me a good quality vanilla cigar to chew on as well.

Through the lips .

The coffee is freshly ground, strong and deadly. A cigar and coffee is guaranteed to keep me up half the night.

I've never had a Dominican/Nicuarguan cigar. We only sold Cuban's and about 2 dozen different types. One reason is it did not matter what we ordered the distributor/importer just sent us whatever he felt like . Without the USA's legal import impediments I do not know if there is a market here for the other central American countries. Cigar smoking is not big in Australia.

Prefer a good briar full of a nice shag escorted by a few fingers of The McCallan or Dalmore.

...recent batches of habanos have been spotty for a few years now, ever since the implosion of the former soviet union curtailed the flow of badly need currency in the early-mid 90s...tho i understand that the quality has improved lately...

...really cannot compare a pre-90 cigar to anything coming out of the dr, tho the padron 64 series from nicaragua is a first rate cigar nearly the equal of a habanos, imho...very rich, full-bodied and dark flavored, with a delightful earthy aroma...

A.Fuentes--English Market Selection 858's. Nice flavor and mild enough for the occasional cigar smoker that you hand one out to.

My favorite combo that I've had so far was a bottle of 30 year old tawny port and a graycliff cigar.

If you guys haven't had a graycliff cigar then you need to try one. They are mild, great tasting, and leave almost NO aftertaste. I first found this cigar when we had dinner at Graycliff (it's an old pirate house in Nassau in the carribean) After the dinner they came around with some cigars, literally rolled about ten minutes beforhand by one of the original rollers for Cohiba. Needless to say my dad, brother and I took a couple. Very Good!!!! I think I like them better than Davidoff. The bad part is I can't afford to smoke them all the time, espically with a 25 dollar a piece price tag, but I do enjoy them on special occasions.

I do not care for port myself but a good single malt is a must at the end of the day and I love a good cigar as well though I rarely have the time to invest in a smoke. This time of year is race season for me so many weekend nights are spent under the stars at the track of the week next to the grill with a good smoke and my 18 year single malt, the perfect end to a day.

I do not smoke or drink port however I enjoy single malt scotch and Highland Park 18yr old is my favorite; it is like honey. A good Pinot Noir or unoaked Chardonnay (from BC of course) is great with dinner and the rest of the evening and ANY cold beer is good after some hard work.

I like nearly all Ports. I would indeed say it is my drink of choice. I have been enamered with the Warres Otima lately. My favorite smokes are:

1) Bolivar Bellicoso fino cabinet selection
2) Monte cristo Robusto millenium edetions
3) Monte Crist #2

I do have a few Graycliffs. I actually picked theese up at
Graycliff in Nassau and they were hand rolled by Avelino Lara while we were at dinner. That was a very cool trip. We had a ocean front sweet at the Atlantis Royal Towers and took a limo to Greycliff for dinner. They bring a humidor around in the parlor and you can go have a smoke with your drink after dinner. I had a 100 year old Grand Marnier It was like going back in time to the 50's. They had a awesome humidor and did a few events a week with on site hand rolling. The Casino in the Atlantis has a Wicked good Cigar shop.

The Atlantis humidor is excellent. I use to be a part of the fun run a speed boat excursion that ended at the Atlantis Casino and I looked forward to having a good smoke after days in the sun.

You should also if ever in Destin FL. check out the wine cellar and humidor at SEAGARS restaurant. The humidor was original built for the Shah of Iran and is a one of a kind out of this world no expense spared unit. Seagars is located in the Sandestin Hilton and a dinner in the wine cellar is one of the best dinning experiences you will ever have I assure you.

Why Cigar Smoking is not big in Australia is because of the Prices Charged for Decent Cigars..
6-7 yrs ago I was in the USA TX and FLA for 6 weeks and smoked 2-3 Cigars a day average cost then was 89 cents to 1.40 USd, at 76 aussie cents to the Aussie dollar they were about a 1/4 of the price of equivalent sized Cigars in Oz. Granted they were not Cubans but they were not bad, as For Cuban Cigars they are heavy, heady, stuff, not to be smoked in a ute over a 25 k drive home from work.. Trust me on that one, I speak from experience..
Scotch Wet a mates baby's head with Johnnie Walker Blue Label $270 a bottle, nice stuff but not that much better than Glenfiddich at $48 a bottle Oz dollars quoted..
As for Port getting 40 Litres from Griffith in the next week at growers rates..

I started smoking Cuban cigars many years ago when I was in Moscow - they were cheap there especially if you bought them in the ruble shops. When I returned to India and then went to Singapore, I nearly died not from smoking but from the price tags on my favourite Cohibas. For a while I switched to some of the higher grade Henri Wintermans and then gave smoking up altogether. As I live in the USA now, Coihibas are an impossibility unless I visit Canada and pick one up.

A good combination is with a fine cognac after dinner. Somehow, I don't enjoy cigars with Scotch, but I am a Sassnach who prefers cheap Scotch like Cutty Sark and Irish whiskies like Bushmills to some of the premium stuff that comes out of Scotland.

Cheers!

I agree, a fine Cohiba with friends is truley a delight after a good day on a lake or river, fishing for big rainbows, steelhead or salmon.

A couple fingers neat of Laphroaig and you have all the Scotch and Smoke you'll ever want!

Cockburn's vintage ports are wonderful, but their non-vintage Crusted is always a winner, if you can find any...a smear of stinky cheese and slice of apple, and I don't need the cegar.

Lagavulin, a Scotch Whiskey from the Isle of Islay of the south coast of Scotland is where its at for me!
drink it neat at room temp with just a teaspoon of distilled water, grab a good book and let the magic happen!

all the Whiskey's from Islay have a definite and distinctive flavour not found in any other region of the country, becasue its coastal, it has defintite sea salt almost iodine notes not nearly as smokey as most single malts..... that may sound off putting, but, trust me, its damn good Scotch!

Forntunate for you, you live in a country where their prices are not dominated by unholy taxes. What costs $45 in Australia, costs maybe $10 in the USA. What is $25 in Australia is maybe less than $5 in the USA.

Nothing to do with currencies, all to do with "social engineering" and the gov'ts huge greed for taxes.

Also US citizens should not worry about not being able to get Cuban cigars. Some of the better cigars IMO come from the Dominican Republic anyway.

No tobacco here.

As for whisky or whiskey's for that matter, my likes are better identified by what I don't...that is a far shorter list, the "don'ts" being a few of the rougher Bourbons {Evan Williams, the cheap Jim Beam for two}.

Tho I've never tried some of the smokier Scotch's but would like to, one "mass-production" Scotch I've taken quite a shine to lately has been the mild and inexpensive "Famous Grouse". It just plain tastes good! And the Irish'es, yes, Mehul, Bushmills is very good and so is Jameson, Tullamore Dew, etc...

All straight, with a bit of water, or over ice. I like them all in all three forms.

Ports...is there a bad one?

Maybe Mike Bailey will weigh in on that question as I'm guessing he would know what to steer away from, as I've only had several and all were quite delightful.

9.3x57, all vintages are pretty good but unless 10 yrs old or more better left to age, in my opinion the best value in port wold in the LBV stuff (late bottled vintage), much cheaper than vintage and you donīt have the decanting hassle and Iīve never had a bad drop of that !, best

Nice to see that port is appreciated by more people than me, I have been picked on for years for my rather high consumption of port, and most agree with Mike Bailey, LBV are always a success. But bought an Anderson port from 1980 for christmas, and it was simply amazing.

On the smoking side I prefer a pipe with some good virgiania tobacco.

My Brother-in-law and I go through a bottle of Port with cigars about once or twice a month.

We also have 3 bottles from 1980, one each to share after each daughter's wedding one day.

As for tobacco, I enjoy a pipe as well now and then, and have enjoyed Ashton Maduros for years, but have recently branched out to their Heritage and Estate Sun Grown.

Drinking a bit of Balvenie Doublewood right now.
This is probably my favorite Scotch although I drink more Bourbons these days.
Seems like I go through periods of preferring Bourbons and then a spell of favoring Scotches. Always neat either way. No reasoning behind it, just switch it up now and then.
And, I just bought a new humidifier for my humidor. Cigars are difficult to keep in good condition here in Colorado unless you really keep an eye on them. I had a little canister of those gel crystal things to keep a bunch humidified. It works great but my little boy grabbed it one day and dropped it on the floor. I collected the spilled particles back into the container and thought nothing of it. I wasn't smoking much then and by the next time I went back to check them, the whole container was covered in mold.
It must have picked up some spores from the floor and the humidor was the ideal environment to grow. Lost quite a few cigars in that incident!

Lost quite a few cigars in that incident!

Sorry to hear that!

Try one of these if you get the chance. I left the picture large so we could appreciate the artwork.

I'm on board with scotch and port, too lazy to keep up with cigars - used to like the royal jamacia but can't seem to find them anywhere.

I use a lot of port in cooking, doing lots of reductions. I also make reduction sauces out of balsamic vinegar, rice vinegar, and vermouth.

Your bottles and rolled tobacco are always welcome on my hill...

Cheers

I like those Arturo Fuentes too, nice flavour and not too strong (which Cohibas are for me). Was lucky to sample a bottle of Taylors 1963 over Xmas. Fabulous best, Mike p.s. not much of a scotch drinker but I do like Dalwhinnie when I can find it

If you haven't tried the Macallan, you should. Mmm.

Followed by Lagavulin, Balvenie, Oban...I think The Balvenie wins a lot of the taste tests, but to my taste, the Macallan smokes em all.

Speaking of smoke...if one is in a masochistic mood, Laphroaig has its place too Old tires, smoke, and Peat was one friend's description

I was given a bottle of MacCallan Cask Strength at the birth of my last son and I agree, it was fantastic! Too bad my wife swilled it...

I am not a fan of Islay Scotch either.
Best description I have of Laphroaig is drinking a campfire through a leather straw!

I certainly understand how some do not like the Isle of Islay scotches, but to me they are the best. Lagavulin is the smokiest of all of them in my opinion. Laphroig next. MacCallum is middle of the road to me. Its a good thing our tastes are diverse or the costs would be worst than the $100 per bottle we need to cough up.
Mike - I agree, Cohiba, a bit too strong for me as well.
I stopped drinking the ports as I drank them like fruit juice...certainly enjoyable. In fact the most memorable cigar and port I had was in the London athletic club, where the waiter elegantly lit the cigar and served it with the port....good times.

Blackbush or Bushmills Irish Whiskey or a Drambuie gets the job done nicely. Glenfiddich is good.

Should try Johnny Walker Blue..........just to satisfy my curiosity.

Port and I have a long standing relationship..........though have neglected it in recent times......a deficiency I must remedy.......in moderation this time.

While I do like the smell of cigars.......smells like burning horse shit ......... I never took up the habit thankfully.

Rather partial to Bowmore's 12 yo...
Aberlour A'bunadh cask strength... and
Laphroaig 10 yo cask strength

All with a small dash of water... preferably out of a NZ South Island trout stream
