"new" Luger for the collection
      #113969 - 08/09/08 09:47 PM

Picked this gem up last weekend.Its a G date S/42 all matching including mag.The serial number and suffix make it a very late 1935 one of the last made G dates.Getting harder to find unmessed with lugers but they do pop up from time to time.

nhdblfan,i to bought a Luger(P08) a few days back but have no knowledge of its history or background.Since you are a luger fan perhaps you could help.The serial no. is 2025 and on top it says "byf".The no.25 is repeated in other places and on the barrel there is a no.42.Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Curl,
I like the earlier ones with the straw best as well.I got lucky with this one as it was a small antique auction and not a lot of gun bidders.I try and buy them when they have condition and all matching with the mag like that when I can.

iqbal,
happy to help but I am no expert.A picture would help greatly but from what you have given for info its a 42 (date ) byf.The serial number will have a suffix which can be tricky to read( my luger pictured is a "f" for instance),here is a link that may help sort it out;
http://www.lugerforum.com/Suffixes/Suffixes.htm

When you disassmble it you should also find that 25 (last two of the 2025) on the trigger and one other place inside.I am not sure if that late,1942 the grips will have the 25 but I would not worry if they didn't.
Here is a link to a forum that is very helpfull with lugers,also Jan Still's books are a must if your going to collect them,they have also been excellent investments.
They are going to want to see a picture as well if you can.

HTH a bit
Best,
Dave K

Thank you Dale,

your right few and far between.I bid on another last week but had to do it long distance and do not like bidding high unless I have it in hand.Way to many redone,mismatched and faked guns in the luger area.I have a line on another one that I hope to get to this week as well as a big auction with some nice sporting arms to bid on.

Pleased you like that custom medallion.My pictures don't do it justice,the workmanship is really special I know whoever did it must have done others and keep hoping to find out who it is.
Thanks for post,I enjoy all the guns the members put up on here and share,what a great forum.
