Recomendations for buffalo / sable hunt
      #115107 - 22/09/08 12:09 PM

G'day everyone,

Would people care to recomend an outfitter for a quality hunt for these two with the hunt experience being foremost. Mind you I wouldn't knock back a monster of either, but a good hunt with a heavy, hard bossed old duggaboy and a good representative sable (or better) in an enjoyable environment is what I'm after. Other plains game aren't realy on the drawing board atm. If I can only afford 1 trip to Africa, it's for these two. If I ever go again it will be for other plains game.

Thanks in advance. By the way, I'm really only starting to look at options atm. This trip wouldn't be for a year or two or three.

Cheers,
Mark.

Oh, I nearly forgot. Definately free range type hunt. I know some of the paddocks are large, but!!!

One I would recommend is Chifuti Safari's in the Zambezi Valley of Northern Zimbabwe..free range Sable..quite a few actually along with big herds of Buffalo...When there this year saw buff every day...as stated hunted with them this year and plan to return next for another...

If you're looking at going in 2-3 years time or more, you'd be better just doing general research at the moment rather than considering areas, companies and countries. A lot can change in Africa in that time period............

I think Chifuti Safaris, or Roger Whittall Safaris either one could provide you with a good hunt. Either will undoubtedly begin in the Zambezi Valley. I hunted with Roger Whittall Safaris the first ten days of this month and got a duggaboy, bull hippo on land, and a good bag of plains game. I will return with either Roger or Chifuti as soon as finances and schedule allow. Regarding Zimbabwe's political situation, I personally had no problems and felt safe. As a matter of fact we made the trip from Harare to Humani Ranch in the southern part of the country by landcruiser. There were numerous police checkpoints but they were polite and gave us no problems whatsoever. Get a firm commitment as to areas and PH when you negotiate your contract and hold them to it. Logistics of air charters will depend on the availability of avgas, so prepare to flex a little in that respect. If you have to resort to ground travel you will certainly see things you would not in the air. Make the best of it. Also, you will certainly have an opportunity to take some other plains game species on your safari. You will be amazed at the number of animals this place supports. If you hunt with Roger you may transfer down to Humani, it's a real zoo. Lots of plains game.

Try Zambeze Delta Safaris in Moz. (coutada 11). I went there last year and had a ball. Lots of buff and sable. Price is pretty reasonable...so to speak.

You might want to talk to Charlton-McCallum Safaris in Zimbabwe.
