lubricatin a Compound bow
      #114961 - 20/09/08 07:06 PM

My Bowtech is designed to have only pivots lubricated. Bowtech doesn't recommend any special oil but advices against WD 40.

My upper cam is squeaking just a tad before full draw.
Usually cams don't need any lubrication?
Should I lubricate, do You think that I can ruin it. The drawback of oiling is that the parts catch dust and sand and a pins bearing is likely to be fast destructed?
Your opinion? Thanks.

I have no idea, but what about a dusting of graphite powder (a dry lubricant)?

Nice bow you have there. I shoot a hoyt ultratech. Just off the top of my head I will say this. The Rem-oil made by Remington Arms for guns is great stuff. Has teflon i believe. I dont know about about the molylube based stuff. It might be the thing. I sometimes use the blower and compressed air to clean my forearms and archery gear. Does bowtech have a recommendation?

Agree with the above--I have used the Remington oil as well with no problems..and would recommend it..

However it should not be sqeaking in the first place---could the bushing be worn ?? I bought a new Mathew 'Drenalin last year..and do shoot quite a bit through the summer..after one year I took it in and they replaced all..but I had shot it 3 to 5 times per week and in leaque through the winter..so is has seen quite a bit of action...

Something I have found useful for many jobs is switch plate lubricant. In Australia it is brand-named ROCOL, and comes in a yellow spray can. It is graphite based and used by railway maintenance crews for lubing track points.
Few words of warning, it can be very messy to apply, so you may need to mask around things, or dismantle them before applying. Once it is on and drying it is very hard to clean up.
It has never adversly affected anything I have used it on, but it COULD damage some plastics, so use care and test on anything when using for the first time.
It sprays wet, but dries fairly quickly, leaving a grey/black coating. It is one of the most slippery dry coatings I have found, stands up well to heavy presure, and reduces pick-up and galling on too tight or badly machined surfaces to just about zerro.
You may be able to score a part can from a railworker if you are nice.

Thanks You all.

Bowtech suggests lubricating only the pivots with any oil but WD 40 period.

I don't want any lubricant that could let a greasy mess in the bearings.

graphites seems nice : I have a forrester kit
graphite kit
for coating collets before reloading. I think I go and try it.

I have no idea of what railroadmen use on the tracks. As in France railroads are almost the property of the declining but potent communist party, no chance that I go and begg them anything. Moreover if it's a messy business, my wife that hardly put up with my hunting crazes, will kick me out. Imagine a guy my age, 55, forced to roam nightclubs and bars to find a new damzel??????? let alone dealing with nappies and such. Bigger is best, You sure you could be called a friend ?

Let's try mica motor. Then I am going to ask Bowtech.

Larcher, all the best things in life are a little messy. Know what you mean about trouble finding things, out here nearly everything is banned, restrictd, licenced or not used anymore. The only way to keep operating is to keep up contacts with others in different fields. If you are lucky enough to be kicked out go proudly to the nightclubs. Remember, you are only as old as the woman you're feeling. I am past the young stage, but go each week to a club as a security officer, just a few hours to keep my licence (even that is restricted and controlled). I frequently get offers from young girls, but I have to turn them down because I am working. Try a uniform, there are still girls who go for that sort of thing. Oh, and I did have a friend once, but I had to let them go, couldn't afford the payments.

Bigger-the-best

Thanks for Your not sound advice. In fact I stay clear from any chick. That's the old fable of your lady secretary working for you. As soon as you get involved, it's you yourself who'll work for her, the same for waiteresses. You get a wife who'll refuse to pour a drink home.
What was we discussing.............yeah lubricating cams.
I tried with the motor mica, no luck. I have asked Bowtech and am still waiting for a response??????
