Just a picture
      #114255 - 12/09/08 01:13 PM

I was downstairs this morning where I was supposed to be unpacking boxes and setting stuff up. Came across this stuff and thought gee, neat picture. No other reason for posting

And, yes the wife caught me playing and got after me...but she didn't sound convincing.

Yeah, and Cameron Diaz is just a woman!

Beautiful rifles! Hope you have a great time hunting with them.

Well, don't know about hunting with them. Both are Westley Richards Carbine 1 1/2. Might work pretty good for short range deer guns

I was sold the top one very cheap and given the bottom one for spare parts.

The bottom one is missing buttplate, rear and fore sights. I can deal with that,

The bottom one may be begging for a custom build.
I have not seen a custom built on one of these actions, but they certainly feel stout - my '69 does.
Overall cartridge length may be limited to 3" though due to the ramped loading.
A beautiful gun IMO and a total classic! I would pick up another decent one in a heartbeat if it came up.

Based on marking the bottom would probably be the better candidate for a Custom build...its a Triangle marked Westley Richard.

The Top one would be a better candidate for custom build as it has been reblued. It is marked N.A.& A 1873.

I have given some serious consideration into making the WR into a .450 Musket No.2.

We'll just have to see.

N.A. & A. Wasn't it a Westley subsidiary?

DoubleD,

Nice rifles. I'm in the dark, what is the significance of the triangle? I always heard if it was upside down then it was a takedown.
thanks,
dale

THe Westley Richards Trademark was the Triangle. Winfer say that this is the first rifle on which the Trianble is observed.

I have on WR Takedown and the Triangle is not upside down.

Any typos in this becauss I don't have my glasses on.

Hey DoubleD

Thanks for answering my silly sounding question. I actually meant specific to your rifle model. Also as to the upside down buisness, I realize that I worded it silly as well. I sadly think much slower than I type :^) In this photo the triangle is pointed towards the muzzle and a man at the cleveland gunshow told me on the takedowns it pointed the other way.

Is this wrong as well? This learning buisness is a never ending process.

I was searching for something else and came across this unanswered post. I apologize for not answering much much sooner. I hope late is better then never.

I have only one take down Westley Richards take down rifle and indeed the Triangle does point to the rear. The point of the triangle is also the witness mark.
