GARMIN Astro 220 experiences
      #113345 - 02/09/08 06:34 PM

I have a buddy of mine interested in getting people's personal experiences with the GARMIN Astro 220.

He is particularly interested to see if it really does work at distances up to 7 miles away for tracking your dogs.

Thanks!

In regards to action he should devote himself to hunting...

Chasseur,
I don't have any personal experience with that unit.
I just googled it and they say that 7 miles is really the best that you can expect in ideal conditions where you are in unobstructed line of sight.
The review I was reading admitted that it is rare to have that type of ideal condition in real hunting situations with dogs.

I do have experience with one brand of tracking collar which I used a few years back.
It was capable of transmitting well over 7 miles in open country, and could even manage about 2 kilometers with the transmitting collar totally underwater.
It was very accurate at pinpointing the dogs exact position so long as you knew how to operate it for best results.

A GPS system like this Garmin Astro should be way better than the standard radio tracking collar system.

I'm interested in hearing peoples experiences with these units too!

I'm interested too. I've heard that the new version (recently released) is much better than the old version due to an improved collar and antenna.
