G'day lads,
I checked out a new spot today with my wonderful wife and my marvellous CZ550 in .416 Rigby. I found this little boar in the shade of some tea tree along a muddy creek, and opened proceedings at about 30 metres. Alas, my shooting wasn't the best as he ran for cover, but I was able to have him down and out quite promptly. Unfortunately, one round entered at the back of his chest and left via his bottom jaw, smashing it and the left tusk (they were only small). With the very last bullet in the magazine (of three), I experienced great difficulty feeding it in, whereas the first two load quite nicely. Methinks the spring to be buggered. Would Horsely Park be able to get a new spring, does anyone know? Anyway, it was a great way to spend a morning. It was magic to be out amongst it, and I'm enjoying the lingering feel of a rifle that gently lets your shoulder know that a round or three have been squeezed-off! The ingredients were Norma brass with Woodleigh 410 grain soft-nosed projectiles, and 94 grains of 2209.
Cheers, and good hunting to all,
Ben

Nice work mate,
I bet its getting hot down your way at the moment. Was there much sign around the creek?
Vic Pedersen up here could help with that spring and I will PM the blokes details now for reloading your 416. Once again great work mate.
Regards,
MOG

Thanks, MOG!
How can I contact Vic Pedersen? Does he have a shop?
There was minimal pig sign, a little donkey sign, and some buff sign.
Cheers,
Ben

Nice big pig, Ben. That's the way I prefer to get them.
I don't suppose you've seen the 'GW' magazine that came with yesterday's Melbourne 'Age'? It has a very long yarn about pig sticking. Not quite as greenie as most newspaper stuff, it includes how one bloke chases pigs on a motorbike knocks 'em over and hog-ties them. He then chucks them in the back of his 'divvy van' and kills them for the European market when he gets home.

Thanks, Paul! Yep, nothing like sneaking along, eh! I don't think we get the Melbourne Age up here, but it is interesting that they put a hunting story in. It reminds me of the buffalo hunting story that Time or The Bulletin ran a few years ago. It wasn't too bad, either.
