I kill one barrel accuracy of my Kodiak.
      #112975 - 30/08/08 01:37 AM

Last week I have some problems trying to pull out a patched round ball from my Kodiak double rifle.
I have to hammer the ball out but I forget to use muzzle protection.
Yesterday I tried some patched RB and I found that right barrel paterns.
Today I return to try REALS as I always have good accuracy with them.
Shot two targets, one for each barrel and I put three left shots in less than 3” . Right barrel shots went everywhere 4th bullet never connect.
I can not see any difference on both crownings.
Should I try to smooth crowning and the barrel close to the muzzle with emery?
Any advise would help.
Thanks
Martin

Martin-

There should be a machine shop in your area.
Take your barrels to the machinist and have them lightly counterbore (recessed crown) the muzzles of your rifle - both the same bore and depth, to slightly greater than groove diameter.

If you look closely, you'll be able to see this has been done to the muzzles of this rifle...

Make sure that they carefully deburr the job, I typically turn a brass or aluminum rod to similar diameter and contour as the crowns and lap them clean with valve grinding compound.

You should be able to get it turned around inside one day.

Thanks Tinker,
I try sone more shooting today and most of the bullets get together.
I hope I pulled those two shots outside the target but Im not shure.
I know I pulled R6 a little.

Thanks
Martin

I just confirm that was MY problem.
This tifle is much sesitive to the way you hold it.
If I do my part it shoots OK.
Thanks
Martin

Martin- the muzle crown is very important to the ease of loading and being able to use an appropriate thickness of patch. You can do as Tinker suggests, using a tapered object and gringing compound, or the easier method of your thumb and emery cloth - I use 320 grit.

Even if the crowns are cut with an object, they still should have a smoothing with emery to cut any sharp edges between the angles that are produced.

When shooting off bags with a gun that is recoil sensitive- ie: throws shots if not held the same, I hold the gun as if shooting offhand, and rest the back of my left hand on the bags. The left hand grips the forend or barrels the same each time.
