My latest recurve and its first pig...
      #112497 - 25/08/08 04:38 PM

Greetings all,

I thought I'd share some pictures of my latest custom recurve. It is a 62" take-down Schafer Silvertip made by Dave Windauer in Montana. The draw weight is 80 lbs @ 28". The limbs are Russian olive. The arrows are Douglas Fir wearing STOS broadheads, and weigh 775 grains each - they melt through the animals.

I thought this sow was a boar as it fed in a paperbark swamp. It was a safe swamp, so I was happy enough to stalk it whenever it put its head down to feed. Finally I was 15 metres away, and let fly. She made it to shore and collapsed. She weighed an estimated 90kg.

Ben,
That's one sweet looking recurve for sure, beautifully made!
Nice pig too!
How does the takedown system operate? Any chance of some photos of the bow taken down?
Very nice, thanks for showing us.

G'day 4seventy,

Here are some photos of the top limb unbolted (the bottom limb is the same).

Cheers,

Ben

The bow-quiver is a Selway rubber slide-on model, which can be easily removed, allowing the bow to pack away very neatly in the event of travel by aeroplane.

One more photo of the bow in action, having slain Australia's most dangerous beast... the feral canetoad!
