"Interesting" Pistol!

I think I'll refrain from bidding on this one!

Martini Special

I love how the seller says: "The grips are fine walnut" and "very high quality manufactured in India."

Kyber Pass would be my guess for the place of manufacture. I'll buy the first bottle of gin for the first chap who fires it!!!!

Scary! But, interesting in an exotic way.

I would say more like some wandering blacksmith, far from Darra or Khyber-those guys did, and still make very fine copies. Ths abomination is not anywhere close.

That looks like a very old gun & probably made by an experienced craftsman. No they did not have proof marks. Neither did the Damascus swords of the crusade era which were made in India!

The price is way too high in my estimation, however this 'pistol' is probably quite workable. I've shot some of the Indian made .303's and had no difficulty. They were rough, of course, but workable.

Bob,

One of my friends in Pakistan has one of these with British markings. But of course, yes, these are still made in Darra and in Afghanistan these days.

There are also illegal factories in India which make these from time to time though these days they have become vastly more sophisticated and produce small semi auto pistols that are better in quality than the Indian Ordnance FActory produces.

Cheers!

I truely do admire the skilled hand and eye that can make a scale version of anything! I've seen pictures of some amazing knock offs that were made almost entirely by hand. My reservations here are: age and wear, unknown steel/starting materials, and the fact that you couldn't pay me enough to fire a brand new pistol in .303! That has got to be brutal.

I think it has interesting historical/curio value as a conversation piece, but that's it for me(not that a real howdah in say, 20 bore, is practical these days either).

Cheers!
