Speaking of trip insurance....

When it comes to trip insurances, specifically, Emergency Medical Evacuation, and also, Medical Insurances that will pay the hospital up front for your treatment, who do you recommend?

I am looking at a brochure from Gracy Travels packet for AIG Travelguard. Trip insurance is 5-6 hundred bucks. I can get the MedEvac for ten days for 69 bucks. I think i will skip the trip insurance and go for the MedEvac. I will be calling my local insurance carrier for my rifles and gear. I think that will be sufficient.

It's your call. Perhaps at my age, I no longer feel the invincibility of youth. What would you do if you're in an accident (like a hunting car rolling over), or you slip, fall and break a leg(this actually happened to a friend of mine from Texas 15 years ago). He needed surgery in Durban, and they insisted on payment up front. I'm not trying to be a prophet of doom, but accidents happen.

I am going to get the MecEvac, or MedJetAssist. Do recommend one over the other? I agree wholeheartedly. I am 50 now, and prone to my share of mishaps.

One thing I have considered is taking a supply of my own blood along, should I need a transfusion. The prevelance of HIV in Africa would discourage me from using a local supply.

Max,
I really know very little about this but I told a friend about your upcoming trip and where you were going to hunt. He has traveled alot overseas and he suggested to me that if you were going into an unstable area, you might want to consider kidnap insurance. He claimed that if they kidnap you and you have no insurance to pay them, they will simply kill you on the spot, but if you have proof of insurance so they know they will get paid, they will deal and eventually you will get released. I am not sure whether this is applicable to your situation or not, but it won't take much to check it out with your safari company. This may apply more to some locations in South America in than in Africa. Bob H.

IMHO--kidnapp insurance won't do anything for you in Zim...too far removed, etc...Agree with it in S America...

This is an aggressive trip at this time in Zim's history,,and you can and should plan for everything you can...but there is risk on this type of trip and you have to accept some of that..again,,that is how I view it...but for me..that is part of the adventure...

I am going to get medical evacuation insurance for sure. I'm afraid the only kidnap insurance will be a few 500 grain A-Frames. I think your right Ripp, its just part of it. Thats why they call it dangerous game hunting. If I wanted to play it safe I would be staying home.
