I leave August 28th for a ten day Zimbabwe buffalo hunt in Chewore. I made my travel arrangements with Gracy Travel, I am looking at the AIG Travelguard brochures now. I was hoping some of you guys with experience could give me some advice on how much and which type of coverage I need. This is my first trip anywhere, first time flying as well! OMG...

Make sure your firearms, scopes, and bino are insured. I'd also look into a med-evac plan such as the one offered by Medjetassist, and others. Also, make sure your medical insurance covers events overseas.

If you are going to tell the insurance company that you are hunting dangerous game they are going to rip you off.
Buy some 100% Deet
Pack three condoms in case you get lucky.
Gin and tonic for the maleria.
Tynol for the hangover afterwards and sore legs.
Don't worry about the rest, none of us are going to live for ever anyway.

What about trip insurance in case of cancellation, civil war, etc.?? Gear and rifles? I hate to live and not have my money and my guns? I like to logic though. I hate insurance!!!

Insurance for your guns can be scheduled on your homeowners insurance policy..you set the limit..which should provide worldwide coverage for theft, breakage, etc...I do that will the ones I use a lot and travel with...I would NOT leave without doing this..you can specifically list your guns, scopes, binos, rangefinder, etc...for the replacement value..less a deductible you choose..
Would have a med-insurance thrown in..When I went with Chifuti..it was automatically thrown in..I still paid for it..but felt good about that one..
As to trip cancellation coverage..I did not buy it and never have...might be dumb but when I checked into it I found it VERY expensive for what it was...IMHO..

Hey Ripp, no offense intended with that crack about hating insurance...LOL. I get the double whammy having rental property and a recovery home. I think I'm going to call my carrier next week and see about insuring my rifles and gear. I am going to get medical evacuation insurance and take my chances from there. Roger Whittall covers cancellations due to conditions in Zimbabwe according to my contract. I think I'll get the DEET and forego the condoms and gin. I think I can abstain for that long!

None taken--I sell it and hate insurance as well..
Looking back at what I had when I was there last--I work shorts every day..take good confortable shoes...take something in case you do get blisters..warm jacket as the mornings will be cold..warm hat for early morning..sun protection hat when it gets warm..sunglasses ...something comfortable to wear around camp after you get back in....something for a upset stomach, etc, etc, etc..
I'll send you a list on your PM if you want on what I took..
Gotta Run..

I would appreciate that very much. BTW, I have tons of insurance! Rental property, Business, vehicles, Home, Health, and on and on. I was lucky enough to get this job I have now as marketing rep for a treatment center thats owned by a hospital corporation. They have great insurance and benefits. Before that the only insurance I had was with Smith & Wesson! I have been piling stuff up in my gun room to start packing. What an order!

Definitely insure the rifle taken, especially if its a Double.
Pay the travel Medical insurance to fly and come get you if you are hurt. There are several carriers. You may even wish to rent/pay for a Satellite phone but usually the PH's will have one in camp--
Sounds like you are going to have a great time!!
