info on E. Wilson double rifles
      #109007 - 05/07/08 10:21 AM

Folks

Looking for any information (or weblinks) regarding E. Wilson double rifles. A local auction has one in 450 x 3-1/4 in an upcoming sale and would like to get some more information before looking at, and possibly bidding on, it. Haven't talked to the auction house yet but believe it is a nitro version and not black powder.

Any help would be most appreciated.

What country is the rifle from? Isn't a name I've seen on a double rifle before. I assume it's Edwin Wilson. There were two that I can find, Birmingham and Norwich. No listing for an E. Wilson in London.

If it is British, small shops rarely actually made double rifles, so it was probably bought in from the trade. If that's the case quality will have to stand on it's own.

If it's British, it's easy to tell Nitro Express vs BPE. Just ask for photos of the flats and water table. Be aware, especially with this caliber, that Nitro Proof can actually be Black Powder Express (Nitro for Black), not Nitro Express. Make sure you understand the proof marks before you jump.

400NitroExpress

Thanks for the tips. I'll be calling the auction house to see what info they can give me this week. Hopefully they'll be able to give me some more info from what's on their website. Will post anything new to see if ring's any bells.

Steve-

Contact Graham Mcinlay
He might be able to tell you something about E Wilson
From what I gather, the Wilson guns weren't anything to sneeze at.
