Show your groups.
      #108880 - 04/07/08 01:47 AM

How about posting pictures of groups with double rifles?
Good groups, bad groups, etc.

Four shots each, RL+RL at 50 meters.

Thanks
Martin

Martin-

Each of my forum posts shows two targets I've shot with a couple of my double rifles.

The image in my signature line is of my J&W Tolley 450 magnum express double rifle, two live rounds, and the two fired pieces of brass from when I finally got it 'shooting'

If you right click on my ID avitar image then click 'view image', you will see an enlarged view of that avitar.
That's a photo of one of my sixteen bore double rifles, it's first day out shooting in likely well over 100 years.

Those two hits on the lower left of the target backer were 'a quick pair', the first two shots from the rifle that day.
I took aim below the paper target at that area, nailed the front trigger, quickly regained my POA then the rear trigger, broke the gun open and removed the brass.

That was a relatively glorious moment, as I'd had to go through a fair bit of work to get to that point - casting chambers, making brass, researching appropriate loads, developing wads - components - loading tools...

The shots rang at about 7:00AM, there was a low blanket of thin fog over the old dry lake/shooting range at the ranch.
I got up to walk down to the target backer for a look, cracked a grin, and broke into a low laughter as I walked back to the bench for a few more rounds.

There was a 20-30 yard long, ten to fifteen foot high and wide billow of blackpowder smoke slowly curling into itself as it rose above the thin layer of fog.

That was a good day.

Great Posts! I want in on this one.
Guess I need to get to the range, or better, hit the bush and come back with meat and a "group" on the "target"! Guess that is what finally counts. If it is only a one shot "group", The next barrel may be in the same place on a different quary the next hunt!

Doctor-

Nice looking 9.3 rifle!
Great looking performance.

Is the small gold dot on the sideplate a cocking indicator?

OK, so here's a couple of targets I've posted before:

Best of three 50-yard groups I shot with a Wilkes-made Manton .470 during my first 'regulating' session immediately after purchase:

Third 50-yard group shot with Scott-made Rodda .577/.500 No.2 during pre-purchase test-shoot:

Group made with the Rodda following bore-scrub:

Note that these are 2 touching pairs of right-and-left. The first pair from the newly-cleaned barrels went lower than the second and subsequent pairs.
Slight crossing evident, which was cured by crimping.

Here's the winning target in the 2005 Australian National Double Rifle Championship (despite the flyer!), made with my Jeffery .450/.400:

My 12 bore Webley & Scott with some S&B Brenneke and Winchester slugs at 20 meters. My first ever attempt to shoot slugs (off hand). I hope to install rifle sights & practice with slugs until I can buy a double rifle. The gun is old but tight. It has been refinished with little of the maker's label visible. Some smart guy back bored it & opened the chokes to use with steel as it became mandatory in NZ two years ago! The gun kicks too much with the WW 2.75 inch slugs but feels great with the S&B 2.5s. I have now got 100 round balls which I will load up by replacing either target or game loads in 2.5 cases.

--------------------
Always shoot through the target & not just at it.

(I hope someone can help me with the pictures if the links again doesn´t work.)

The rifle is crossing around 30mm at 100m so it should be hole in hole at 50m.

Shot two hours ago.

Very nice shooting and all of it is offhand. These doubles should be capable of superb accuracy off a rest despite what some people would have you believe . . .

I checked at the links and found that I would need a password to log in to view the pictures. If you e-mail them to me at kamdarmehul (at) gmail (dot) com I would gladly post them for you. Normally, the best sites for this are www.photobucket.com and www.hunt101.com Both are free to register on and most of our members use them.
