About 458 Winchester Magnum. Thank you.
      #108713 - 02/07/08 06:31 AM

Hello, as I said in another post, entitled "madness", I'm saving to buy a rifle's caliber Winchester Magnum 458. The purchase of weapons will be very long term, but I am interested in this caliber, especially in the precision of rifle Ceska 550 caliber Magnum in this powerful and reverse it generates. Too sharp perhaps? Although measure 173 centimetres and weighing 82 kilograms jejeje. Well and you can tell me everything that happens you of 458 Winchester Magnum. Forgive the inconvenience.

Sincerely,

Oscar.

Oscar

Compare the recoil of the .458 to a 3" 12 Gauge in a light shotgun.

No worries on the recoil but you do need to hang on to it.

If you intend to do a lot of shooting with it have the forward bedding block and the action bedded. The stock will split without this reinforcement.

Good luck.

Thanks for your answer, I think I have very keen to have a rifle in this caliber. I also think that I will not have problems with the setback, but try to throw some protective shoulder jejejeje. Great stick by what I read.

Thank you for everything,

Oscar.

I have owned a CZ 550 in .458 lott and liked it quite well. I recommend getting the .458 lott so you can shoot either .458 winchester magnum or .458 lott. I now have the Ruger M77 Magnum in the .458 lott chambering. I love it. I love the caliber as well. I have been reloading for it and enjoy it even more. I took me a while to get used to the recoil. I asked for help in a forum here on NE. After doing some physical conditioning and shooting alot of smaller calibers along with the biggies I feel very comfortable shooting big bores. I did some upper body strength training and it helped tremendously. I have a .30-06 M77 and started shooting it alot for practice. I think you will like your .458 rifle. It is a versatile big bore, especially in the .458 lott chambering. Once you get your crimp right its nice to reload. Expect to trash a few cases setting the crimp. There are some lighter bullets to use for smaller animals and some 405 grain flat soft points the are inexpensive for practice too. Go for it! You'll love it...

Max.

I just posted this question to a much more Lott-Centric website forum, to get a better sense from what would seem to be a bigger group of Lott-chambered rifle owners/shooters.

I'll put it to you.

Of all of your rifles chambered in .458 Lott, do you have a rifle that shoots it's most accurate load with .458 Winchester Magnum brass?

If you do have a Lott chambered rifle that shoots it's most accurate load with WM brass, what's the rifle, what's the twist, and what's the bullet/load/velocity?

You got me there, I cant answer that question. I shoot the lott loads. I dont know why .458 winchester loads wouldnt be accurate from a lott chambered rifle though. I have .44 magnums that shoot well with .44 specials (T/C Contenders). I aquired my rifle for hunting dangerous game and have never shot a .458 winchester in this rifle. I did in the CZ with good results. That was with factory ammo. There are surely others on these forums with more knowledge than me in this area. I just like the versatility available. I measure accuracy in MOB (minute of buffalo) rather than MOA!

I am sure that if bigmaxx, although I think I will have sufficient size to 458 Winchester. I do not know if the rifle factory in Ceska comes from Lott 458, and if so is not more expensive the rifle to me what the best buy in Lott, but only in the manufacture and Lott should be recharber the weapons, I accordance with Winchester .

Thanks bigmaxx,

Oscar.

Hello Mike, I understand your question whether there is near Madrid shooting range for rifles. Well, actually I know the range of Cantoblanco, but I do not know whether there with rifle shooting gallery. I feel that he was unable to help you more.

Oscar.

Agree with most on here---the .458 is a great caliber---and depending on stock design, weight of gun, pad, etc..they can be shot quite easily if you are used to bigger calibers..

The .458 Lott has noticeably more power however you typically feel that at both ends..but agree with Big Max, if I was using it to hunt elephant, I would prefer the Lott over the Winchester..plus, as stated, the Lott can shoot both..

Good Luck in your decision..

Thank you for your response Ripp, I suppose that for hunting elephant that gives more power greater confidence. But I want to know something, do Ceska rifles are sold in 458 manufacturing Lott? if so are much more expensive than a rifle at 458 Winchester Magnum? Do something else and accuracy suffers when shooting the 458 WM in a rifle's caliber 458 Lott?

Thank you,

Oscar.

I paid about $40.00 (US) more for my CZ550 in .458 lott than the .458 winchester magnum. They are both great calibers and I'm sure either will get the job done for you. The CZ550 I had was reamed the additional 3/10" for the lott at the fatory. The barrel markings where stamped for both calibers.

Oscar
Agree with BigMax--should not be much if any price differance--as to performance--you will probably notice a slight decrease in muzzle velocity when shooting the Winchester rounds in a Lott chamber --but it will be fairly insignificant...accuracy regarding dangerous game should be fine as well as most shots are well under 100 meters--with most actually closer to 50 to 70 meters and some much closer than that...go with the Lott, you will never be sorry...plus if you are in a hunting camp and your ammo was lost..there is always .458 Winchester in camp somewhere --just as there will probably always be .375 H&H as well..

Good luck,

Ripp

Bigmaxx, Ripp:

Thank you for your answers, certainly when I go buy the gun report of the Ceska if they sell is manufactured in Spain in 458 caliber Lott. I have helped a lot of you, I would like to continue reading post in the debate opened.

At least some of the CZ550's have long enough magazine boxes and throats to load a Barnes 450 grain TSX out to 3.550 inches or longer, giving Lott velocity. Just don't fire this in a rifle with a shorter throat.

Interesting--when you slide the mouse over the data on that page it shows inaccurate data--showing a 416 H&H..416 Win Mag, etc....someone was asleep when entering the information..

Nice looking rifles..

Can you buy the rifle?

No Tinker , I think it is a rifle rather cheap, but now I do not have that money. I need to save for quite some time, I have many expenses, for a normal family and we have to live with my salary only. But it seems to me that the rifle has a great price. But I can not buy it now.

I understand.
Do you have things that you can sell, to make money for the rifle?

Is there some things in the garage or in storage that you can transform into your new rifle?
