elephant hunt

I know there are a few posters here that have extensive expierience hunting elephants. I am thinking of booking a hunt perhaps next year. Can anyone tell me what to expect to pay for a quality hunt and how long a hunt to expect to have to book in order to expect succes. Are there any areas that are better than others and what areas to avoid.

Depends on what you want from the hunt? Do you want 90 pounds of Ivory? Shoot a Bots or RSA park ellie for $100K.

Want 60 pounds of ivory? Shoot a Bots or western Zim ellie for $45K.

Want 40-50 pounds of ivory? Hire Buzz Charlton for $17K all inclusive. www.buzzcharltonsafaris.co.zw

im going to botswana in april for my elephant hunt the trophy quality is around the 70+ mark the ph said if we hunt hard there should be no problem topping 70 pounds. the ph is confident that we should top 70 easy

my hunt all inclusive cost me 26800 us dollors. i booked my hunt through ron young in texas with safaris botswana bound

That's too cheap for Botswana, usually it will be the double price

This year I'll try Tanzania again, I'd never taken a elephant there

i got the hunt through ron young hes been in the bussines for 20+ years and is well respected he worked out the deal for me but i would say 26,000 to 30,000 is quite enough to get the job done.

the only differnce is i am not on one of those sliding scals i locked in the price.

if your paying more than 30,000 your paying to much or your not looking hard enough

OK remember I'm new to Africa hunting, but I understand you could shoot cows for a lot less. I understand they both have ivory and the femails are more dangerous, so please explain why the males are more expensive. Please forgive my ignorence, how else will I learn right.

Uh, would you believe the bull elephant is about 1/3 larger in size than the female? How about the ivory is longer and thicker than the females? How about the fact that bull is tougher to put down? On top of that, from what was told to me personally, the bulls are very elusive targets. They don't grow long tusks and live that long by being dumb. A lot hunting for bulls is in chasing down bachelor groups of 2-4 as they have their own territory and don't mix with the cow and baby herds unless the breeding season in full blast. My partner's dad has made several ele hunts in the past and he ran down the main difference between the bull and cow hunts. He showed me his ivory and there is no doubt in my mind that the bull ivory is the way to go.

There're no CITES permits for cows and some countries like Tanzania doesn't allow to hunt any female.

I book elephant hunts for Johann Calitz in Botswana and they get several elephants every year in the near 100 pound range

A 50 lb. elephant will run about $30,000 but a over 70 pound elephant will cost you $45,000. Johann can get you about anything you want if you have the time...I suggest 21 days for a real trophy bull...

When you book pay special attention to add ons and hidden costs on bargain hunts..

I have Tanzania elephants for $35,000. all inclusive of charter flights, the works....
