8x57 confessions

I want to thank you all for the really kind remarks and add a few comments.

All three rifles are 318 bore and rimmed.

The O. Geiger is Dad's rifle and he's had it for years. One photo that I had intended to post shows the crossbolt. It is square and while opinions vary as to it's value, it has just always rung my bell. The machine work and fitting required just blow my mind.

The Frauenstorfer is trully a merkel and though photobucket has swrewed up my login code for now I'll post a photo of the breech face showing the merkel mark that denotes merkel. I found it on the net and after a week or so of scrounging money and smothering to death I finaly got it.

The merkel with ejectors is one I just got. WvTom and I found it at a gunshow and with about an inch of dust in the muzzles. As it turned out, I traded almost everything on my table and all my cash except for enough gas money home. I had a large John Primble 4 blade congress knife in my pocket that I was fretting with throwing in also when the fellow agreed to take all my junk. :^) :^)

Dale-

Right on!
Great job on the yard sale clearance of crap and having bagged such a nice prize.

Try the Woodleigh SNRN 318 bullets.
They've been working out well in my 8x60r

Dale, I for one will look forward to some breech shots there is something about a double breech that really floats my boat, especially with cross bolts, dolls heads & generally third bites of most descriptions. I can understand your bell being rung. The trio you have shown us is simply drool making.

Photobucket gave me a new password so here are the pictures as promised. This mark is the Merkel mark and I have seen another merkel shotgun with the word geme which supposedly meant it was retailed by someone else.

On Merkel #2 the word bemesu is written and I read that it was placed on Merkels that were retailed under another name also.

the o. Geiger photos

I know it'll come out sooner or later, WvTom has charging buff and lion targets on his farm and the first time I took the first merkel to shoot wit them, he and Fred both out shot me with it, but like I told them, I had just brought the wrong glasses :^)

Dale, thanks for those, great shots, lovely guns, love the side clips (?), wee wing things. You're truly very fortunate to have those, all I can feel is envy, hot green slimey envy. We will expect field reports in due course.
All the best.
Steve
