Yeah, I saw it on the auction as well. Beautiful rifle. Fun to look at. Should bring a pretty penny. Looks to me like the stock is a replacement. I wonder how that might affect value.

A restock for sure. Also reblued. Will definately hurts the "value".

Plains 99 / Corbin,
Would you consider it a good hunting rifle as opposed to a mint collector piece?
Thanks for your opinions in advance and good hunting!

Mehul-
I'd call it a good hunting rifle with lots and lots of ultra cool vintage brit character.
I agree the stock looks like a replacement, and it's obviously been re-blued. The blue job was preceded with a ham-fisted engagement with a hard buffing wheel, notice the lettering, the matting on the action ring, and many of the crispness of the metal features are somewhat 'smeared' from the pre-blue 'polishing' efforts. That will definitely detract from the collector value.
It's awfully cool though, and assuming there aren't any significant problems with the bore (or elsewhere) someone's going to end up with a really fun hunting rifle.

Grab it! I sold a similar gun at the Las Vegas show in 1996 for 5800.00. The rifle in the photo has the all important clips in the rails to insure proper feeding. Do not buy one without this important feature as it will cause you problems.

Tinker,
Thanks for going over the rifle in detail, my friend. I was not in the field for a rifle like this as it would be too expensive an investment for me right now but, hopefully, I shall find somethig nice in the future.
Hopefully, whoever bought the rifle will hunt with her.
Good hunting!

I have never handled one of these guns. Is the piece in front of the magazine made of horn? Perhaps to cover the hinge and add a flowing contour for the stock/magazine transition? Very neat gun - a silvers pad would be a big improvement.
