Does anyone know?

Does anyone know how rare Mauser K98's in .22LR are? I have a friend with one (stamped Obendorf on the reciever) and it was surprisingly accurate with subsonics. We were shooting empty shotgun hulls at 75yds with it, with iron sights.

Sure would like to find one like it, but have never seen another one...

I believe your refering to the military trainer Mauser Model KKW. Photos will tell. There was also a civilian trainer known as the DSM. They are not very rare. These rifles were made by several manufacturers. There were also conversion units for K98's made by Erma.

Dons,

Cool. Thanks for the info! I'll have to keep my eyes open (I really enjoyed going "back to the basics" with iron sights and single shot...)

while they aren't all that rare, neither are they common. way back when i had one and the thing was a accurate piece as i recall, but i haven't seen over a handfull since. i would tend to believe they have mostly found their way into collectors cases.
