Clearly a shooter that didn't want his PH putting a bullet in his buff - at any cost

At least it was a scoped rifle, so there was no foresight to catch when they removed the barrel from his arse :-)

I can't seem to get the video to run, but based on the one video image I can see, I believe that is from Boddington on Buffalo II and the PH is Mike Payne.

A client shooting from behind the PH is unfortunately quite common (including accidental discharges).

What is this guy doing following up a buffalo with a scoped rifle?
In my opinion, the scope makes this even more dangerous because you cannot see which way the PH is headed - in fact, the PH was starting to lean right into the path of the shot at the time the trigger was pulled!
We, on this forum, have discussed many aspects of DG hunting, not the least of which is proper rifle selection and above all - safety!
IMHO, this guy demonstrates neither!
This should be a lesson to us all. If bringing a scoped rifle, make sure the scope is detachable. If facing an impending charge, line up across the path - an animal can go after only one person at a time, giving clear lines of fire for all others.
This PH should indeed throttle that client!

He probably will in a week or two, when his ears stop ringing!

If you slow the video down and stop it frame by frame you can see how close the buff got!! The Buff appears to be going after the hunter then the next frame he is going at the PH with the Double then ass away at full speed.

It seems it would be better for all if the hunter spreads out abit away from the PH(2-3 feet?) to bring more firepower to bear at the point of attack. But,as I have not hunted Buff yet what do I know??

Bet the client feels he got his moneys worth and the PH is glad he survived the client!!

In my own experiences, the PH often has the hunter beside him on a "follow up" which might have been a better option in this instance.

In this instence it might have been better if the client has returned to the bakkie. !

...there is a story running around in Zim about client shooting his PH in the hand when buff charged - client was so shocked that he went to sit in the truck while PH was tossed around - eventually a tracker picked up a rifle and shot the buff...

You are correct it is Mike --he is a friend of my PH from last week..ironically we discussed this very hunt..I guess when Mike was hit by the buffalo..he had an injury to his knee that lasted for quite some time..Tim from Safari Classics was filming that hunt...
