It is a 30-06 Remington (Baikal). German MAK low fixed rings and a Barska Euro 1.5-4 30mm scope.

That's a nice group of rifles. How does the SxS shoot?

I think everyone is interested in the Baikal offerings.

Thanks for posting.

Curl,
I will be bore sighting it this week and heading to the range shortly. Rifle ranges are hard to come by here in Palm Beach County, but the Sheriff's Dept opens their range to the public (rifles only) one weekend a month. If I get a chance, I can go to Okeechobee and shoot...and when I sight it in, I can hunt for boar on the same property.

They are not easy to find. I have a .30-06 SxS on order and it will be delivered next week. It was the only one the jobber had in stock. There are no .45-70 SxS rifles to be had.

I am told the .30-06 rifles are very few.

I don't know if I will keep the one I get. I ordered it out of curiosity and speculation. Stay tuned!

The Rings were ordered from Germany and are low mount 12mm split rings with recoil lug. They are not quick detachable.
As for ordering a Remington Double, try http://lewisarms.homestead.com
They had quite a few in stock with the lowest prices on the web.
The website is informational only and you must call to check inventory or to order.

Does the rifle have any provision for scope mounts, or did you alter the rib to mount your scope?

The rifle has an 11mm dovetail with a recoil lug slot milled in. The over and unders have the same set-up minus the recoil lug slot.

Update:

My order of a Remington SPR-22 SxS .30-06 proved to be illusory. I got a call Tuesday from the distributor and was informed that their computer erroneously showed one in stock when in fact they had none.

So I won't get to do a report on one for a while at least.

G'day,
Just joined tis thread and the photos/images have disappeared, the Baikal double, was that o/u or sxs? Does anyone know the sxs, does it have a full length rib
or two separate and distinct barrels like the o/u?
Thanks

Well, I like to see in the forum doubles I could buy. I think everybody loves Purdeys and Hollands... but I would bet 99% of the forum visitors can not afford one. Just now am opening a new thread: "SHOW UP YOUR CHEAP DOUBLE" (no more than, say, ummm, $5.000)

Just show up, poor double rifles of the world!

Sorry for the delay in answering, but I have been out of town for a few days. I will take some better pictures of the guns tomorrow. I just received a few more compact scopes. A friend an I are going to mill the CZ rings and lower them like the bottom rifle has. The medium rings just are not right for a DR. You have to lift up a little to see thru the scope.

The top two are 30-06 EAA Baikals. Price was $279.00 plus shipping.

On the top rifle I removed the front site band and inserted a flexible delrin (acetate) rib, which I made in my shop. Then I reinstalled the front site band. It has a few thousandths of clearance to allow for regulation. Scope rings are medium height CZ-USA 1" diameter 11mm dovetail rings. Scope is a 1.5-4.5 Bushnell.

Second rifle is how it came from the factory. I have the same rings for it.

The bottom rifle is a 30-06 Remington Spartan/Bakail. Rings are 12mm low mount by MAK/Germany. Scope is a 30mm 1.5-4.5 Barska Euro scope. $889.00 for rifle, $230.00 for the rings and $85.00 for the scope.

I love the way it is balanced and it points like a shotgun. Triggers could use a little work. It is accurate with 150 gr. factory loads. I have yet to draw blood with it. Yes I would buy another and will buy the 45-70 when EAA gets some in.

USSG inc is importing them they are just another name for EAA. The email is USSG@EAACORP.COM. My local shop can get me the 45/70's for 785 plus sales tax, same gun different importer.

When I called EAA about a month ago, they gave me three distributers that supposedly had some of the EAA 45-70s. My FFL had no luck with any of the distributers. The price you stated is in line what with EAA quoted at the Shot Show. I think they are having just as much trouble bringing them in as they did when dealing with Remington.

When I got mine, I had my dealer looking, & his main distributor told him he had originally gotten one or two, but was now out of them, but they were in the middle of year end inventory... they ended up calling back the next day saying they had found one that was mislabeled in the box... so mine my have been the last one purchased out of the last group that came in ???

You were very lucky. How is the wood? It seems like the Baikals from EAA have really nice walnut, while the Remingtons had various types of hardwood. Please post some pics!

that's strange my shop looked it up for me 2wks ago and their distributor said they had multiple in stock. Maybe they just go really fast, low cost double, adjustable regulation, made in popular North American cartridges. What's not too like. just don't expect a $5,000+ rifle for $800

Mine actually has very nice wood... it does have one peculiarity though... the muzzle end ( barrel crowns & the muzzle end of the spacer block between the barrels ) was not blued ( er well blackened ) ??? almost like it was machine surfaced after the metal was finished... the 30-06 that my local dealer has also has nice wood, & doesn't have a "white" muzzle ???

BTW... I got mine in early January of this year... it wasn't a planned purchase... so its still on layaway... but I borrowed it for my builder to inspect, & for me to get these pics

let's see if I can post some pics...
