Truth and Honesty
      #106731 - 05/06/08 05:10 AM

I am a bit disappointed that the truth never came out in the "deleted thread"
As psuedo names are used, shouldn't we allow the eventual outcome and truth to float to the top???

I have been collecting doubles for a short ten years compared to some. I often am amazed at how members with so little experience get taken, paying inflated prices for weapons of inferior quality. I believe that forums like this allow for guidance and opinions, sometimes wrong, but usually corrected, or right, and this debate is most important to give potential buyers a sounding board.

Knowledgeable posters such as 450/400, Cpt Curl, or Marraki offer information otherwise unknown to most. When claims are made and then questioned, isn't that how the truth comes out, how we learn? When posts are tampered with, what conclusion can be drawn?
A forum should, in my opinion, allow the accused to defend themself, which they will do effectively, IF they are telling the truth.

I never did believe in political correctness...call a spade a spade and let the chips fall where they may!!

Jaz

Well I have up very late tonight so this is not a favourable topic for me tonight!

Nevertheless, there was never any issue with members commenting in a fair manner on the firearms being sold in the other thread. If a member wishes to comment on a firearm and point out in their opinion, without malice, without slander, without a unfair commercial 'sabotage' motive, the positives or negatives of a firearm, being offered for sale, that may be a plus for education, enjoyment and avoiding less than favourable purchases by real prospective buyers and members on NE.

An exception would be the classified advertisements where some respect for the seller should be considered, unless there is some sort of gross mis-statement or mis-description. General discussion should be done elsewhere on the forums.

Personal attacks should not enter into the discussions.

Political correctness is not even relevant.

As for truth and honesty. Acting on the forum in an honest manner is a membership requirement.

People posting on this thread should keep this discussion free of any of the personality conflict issues displayed on the other TWO threads. The other threads and issues are not finished and members should have a little patience.

My point, though not taken well, is that this site is a refernece or help site for many interested and hoping to buy a DR. I have always looked at it as a sort of a clearing house for opinions on specific guns. Too bad some folks do not get along, but that will always be the case.
This site has provided me with quite a bit of entertainment, and all for free!! And I thank you for that.

As the moderators are spread out around the World it is hard for us to get a consensus in a short time period.

Have patience that it will be resolved as fairly as we can.

Mickey is spot on.

There are a lot of different timezones involved here, so people need to take a deep breath, calm down, and be patient.

Cabelas has finally been emailed so we will have to wait to see if they respond. They have access to the original threads.

I don't know what information Cabelas might be willing to give. I would certainly be angry with them if they they gave any details of any transaction I had with them to some uninvoled third party. I think if you read the forums regularly you realize there may be some long standing animosities between some members. You also know what was written in the specific thread and what responses were given. The chips may have already fallen.

When I responded to this thread, it wasn't to stir up ill feelings between anybody. I simply reported what I found, as I have been prevented from making several costly mistakes based upon what I've learned from participants here. In this case, I was actually able to visually inspect the guns and saw these very obvious problems as I wrote about in the earlier thread. Since Cabela's has no compunctions against selling these guns to some poor slob who doesn't know the details, I was just trying to return favors others have done for me. Yes, we can get refunds, etc. etc, but the grief isn't worth it if it can be avoided.

bwanakim,

In my opinion you have done a good service in reporting what you saw. We all benefit from truthful information.

On the web?? john - smokin that stuff will make your hair fall out. seriously the big cabelas showplace store is about 5 miles away. I used to go there often, but since the ownership changes, i now go rarely. I don't even look into the gun library anymore, ever since i saw them make a trade with a guy taking about 2500 worth of stuff and giving him 800 for it

Well done. Not a problem.

I think it is a great service when knowledgable persons post their opinions of why particular firearms are to be avoided and if someone buys them with that info, they are forewarned or take it into account.

I apologise to members who posted legitimate posts on firearms on the thread in question but as it would be inflammatory to restore it.

I have posted some comments on the other thread which people can read if they wish.

John is a true gentleman, and his involuntary 'in the middle' of this mess was unfortunate. He handled it with grace and intelligence. I for one recognize the debt we all owe him for providing us with this forum to trade views about our favorite weapons, news of what becomes available, etc. I also thank those like bwanakim who alert us to potential issues on guns that newly appear and which may have some problems to be known before they are purchased.

As for my own issue with this particular gun, Cabela's has treated me quite fairly and the problem is being resolved to my satisfaction. I will conclude this note by stating that whatever issues may or may not exist in a particular gun, Cabela's has impressed me with their willingness to do 'the right thing' in the end. I would not hesitate to buy from them again --- and just did when N.L.Heinke used them to list his exquisite, custom rebuilt, restocked, re-engraved, etc I.Hollis based 470 Farquashon for sale. Snapped that puppy up as soon as the store opened and they started answering the phone.

Best to all of you who pmd me and to John who resolved this matter, as I said, as a true gentleman.

Dave (and if anyone wants my 'true name' or direct email, feel free to pm)
