Very nice! I love watching the project evolve - keep posting photos! Are you planning to have an over comb tang extension? I echo the .22WMR idea...
I seem to recall that Peter Hofer made a one-off once. Don't know about Thys. If these are going into production though, well that is something special and unique!
I wonder if Swarovski could be persuaded to make a limited edition scaled down scope for the rifle?

Looks good guys, any idea on what kind pricing for guns in the white with exhibition wood? Or are you planning on selling complete?

Any thoughts on adding a strap over the comb, I love when these little guns are built up like the big boys.

Keep me in mind as a potential buyer please, I have a serious DR affliction that I can't seem to rid my self of, the medication my wife has me on has never worked properly..

The very best for your inspection. This is one of the most interseting threads I have followed. Anticipation is building as the progress reports come in.

baileybradshaw,
Hope it all goes well. Bit nerve-racking dealing with government officials who usually are not firearm orientated ain’t it?
All the best

I was a little nervous as I had heard so many different experiences.

The inspection went very well. The ATF agent couldn't have been more courteous or professional. She was even very encouraging. She indicated that as long as my background checks went OK, I could expect my license to go through by mid August. Thats about a month ahead of my estimate after hearing several other's timeline. I don't have a past to worry about so needless to say I am giddy.

I was very impressed with the ATF inspector.

I've been doing a little work here and there. Got my prototype barrels in, as unturned blanks, and set about machining one of them to the contour I want. It's totaly unrealistic for me to turn the barrels on my mill as it is a little small and it's basicly a waste of time. I just wanted to make sure the finished size was OK. I could only get 22.5" barrels with this method, but I am looking at 24" for the production rifles. Based on the weight of the barrel I have turned to size, the rifle will weigh 6 lbs..The barrels will be threaded into the monoblock.

OK, enough dialog, here are a few pics.

A few more pics for your viewing pleasure

I am waiting for the second barrel to be turned to contour by a local machine shop. They have a dandy CNC lathe.......and I don't......yet....I should have the barrel in first of the week and will have it installed and soldered in before the week is out.

Working on my website, and am accepting orders. I have my options list set and pricing established. That took more work than I expected.

Thanks for looking!!

I have contacted my web host. It's still not working at the moment, but they have the ball.

If it's not up in a couple of days ( would sure like it to be sooner than that), I will open a new site.

Forgot to mention, the checkering is 24 lpi with mullered borders. It sure feels good in the hand, and the only thing that would improve it is a little more weight. Good thing the second barrel with give just that. Getting anxious!!

bailey

Suggest you get a web site that you can update and upload pictures yourself whenever you want instead of waiting for someone else to do it.

It's not difficult with today's software to learn or use.

Bailey

I think that your work is great here.

May I just be impertenent enough to suggest that you forget monoblocks and make those guns of yours shoe lumps.

IMHO you are far too good to be making mono's.

Regards

Wahoo!! My old website is back up. www.bradshawcutlery.citymax.com . I have a temporary page for the rifles with pricing and options.

As for progress....Well, I will be shooting next week. All that is needed for the first shots are firing pins, chambering and final fit on the ejectors.

The rifle weighs in at 5.7 lbs, and balances 1.5" in front ( muzzel end) of the hinge pin. It points great and weighs enough to have substance. The weight of the barrels are almost enough to cock the locks, but they will certainly be enough once everything is heat treated and polished.

The front sight base has a regulating screw for spread.

I am very pleased with the rifles feel and overall look. It's nice and slim, but doesn't have a "toy" feel. It shoulders and points great. Should be hell on jack rabbits. :-)

Bramble,

I am looking into the shoe lump suggestion. Looks like it may streamline the process a little. Good stuff!!

Bramble - this is so cool. I'm really excited for you and hope that it will be a grand success! I'll be looking at my pocket-book too to see if I can budget one of those beauties into my collection.

First shots tomorrow afternoon. I need to make the firing pins and chamber it, then it's off to the pasture range out back. Will give a range report of course.

OK, ran a few rounds through her today. I need to make a couple of adjustments to the firing pins and add more weight to the hammers. I had a couple of miss fires due to too little force. Certainly fixable and will be tomorrow.

Very cool to hear her voice for the first time though. A very encouraging note was it shot consistently and the barrels heated less than expected. I didn't attempt to regulate it yet, but did play with the regulating screw and it proved effective.

More upates tomorrow....

WAHOO!! Were shootin'now.

I redesigned the mainspring/hammer setup to use coil springs. Mainly for the rebounding hammers. With so little room to manage, the V springs were too short to allow enough overtravel for the hammer to strike hard enough. The coil spring setup uses a trinagular prinical to rebound the hammers rather than bouncing off the spring. The result is there is less returning force, so the hammers retain their forward momentum carrying more inertia into the firing pin.

It's a little easier to cock the rifle as well ( not that it was difficult before, the weight of the barrels almost did the job) Feels smoother though.

Hammers sure hit harder and she goes bang every time. Will start regulating tomorrow and Thursday. Pictures then as well.

I'm a happy man!!

Had a little range time this afternoon. Started out with the barrels crossing ( started at 20 yds). I expected them to based on measuring the width of the bores at the breech and muzzel. A couple of adjustments for getting the barrels to shoot close to the same plane horizontally, then adjust for spread. My regulating screw worked well, but I do need to make a wider front assembly as the barrels required more than the assembly has travel.

The picture of the group was from 20 yds, the aim point was undefined, ....as in "edge of the post, about 1 inch below the nail"

I am pretty pleased. I will dial it in more tomorrow afternoon. The ejectors need a little more work, and then she will be ready for engraving and finishing.
