Rimfire Double
      #106316 - 29/05/08 11:38 PM

I was having a chat with a fellow who shall remain nameless at present; I don't want to compromise him if it doesn't work out, regarding a project he is working on for me when he brought up the fact that he has just made himself a single shot action ready to have the barrel put on. He is a qualified metallurgist etc and was very modest about it. When I saw some pictures I was amazed, stunning work. I mentioned my interest in doubles and he said he thought they were the epitome of gun building and then told me he planned to start building completely custom RIMFIRE only double rifles next year with damascus steel actions !!! When I heard that I immediately told him that if it would put 4 shots in an inch at 60 yds (.22 LR) I would take the first one. He wouldn't take a deposit yet (thinks the first one is at least a year away) but if any of you out there may be interested I will have a chat to him and maybe put you in touch. I guess he is going to try to make about 10-15 a year and importantly, the price is VERY reasonable though I am going to get him to upgrade to exhibition walnut. You may have gathered I am a huge fan of Damascus steel best, Mike

I may be interested, but I would most likely prefer high grade steel over damascus.

Not pretending to be in the financal

position for such an indulgence, but

in what nation will the work be done,

the U.K. or other European nation, or

the USA or...? Are the action bodies to

be forged or milled, are bbls to be chop-

just curious as an enthusiast of DR's.

Mike,

As the resident pesterer for pictures, I must join BFJ and request more information though I would, most probably, never be able to afford to buy one of these masterpieces.

Please ask the gentleman in question to post pictures and more information here. Artists like him would always be well respected.

Good hunting and thanks in advance!

Mike / Peter,

Thank you very much for the pictures. I shall be one among many members here looking forward to progress on this rifle as it is made as well as on the doubles should the gentleman decide to make them as well.

It is always a pleasure to watch a work of art being put together. This rifle promises to be one.

Thanks and good hunting!

Hello, my fist post here. I am the self abusive maniac making the single shot pictured above. I am also working hard on the plans for the rimfire doubles. Just a long way to go before I am 100% positive I can go ahead with them.

Anyway, here are a couple more pictures of more work I have done on the stock. The drawbolt will be recessed obviously, but I need to wait until I get the barrel/forend complete and balance it. It fits me like a glove, set up for stalking and sitting upright. Let the comments fly!!

Mike, I decided to go ahead and register here, so I beat you to the pictures.

Bailey-

Big welcome to NitroExpress!

You have a great looking rifle in the works there.
Please take my strong encouragement on your continued effort to complete your 22 side by side rifle plans and construction.

I'm glad you're out there doing the work.
I very much look forward to seeing a price estimate for the double rifle.

Bailey,

A warm welcome here and best wishes with your gunmaking plans! This does look like a really nice rifle in the making and I hope that the interest that many members here have shown in the rimfire double would make you launch full production.

The rifle is coming out very nicely and please do post pictures as she becomes ready. Beautiful guns, like beautiful women, are meant to be shown off.

Good hunting!

Bailey

Welcome to the Forum.

I would be very interested in a .22 DR. Please put me on your very interested list.

I like single shots a lot. Particularly small and very small ones.

Good Job and I am looking forward to more pictures.

OK, here are a couple more pics. I have the forend wood mated to the forend iron, am working on the Anson latch to hold the forearm on, installed the trigger guard and have the extractor in, but not quite fitted enough to close the action with it in place. It REALLY is time to order the barrel now :-)
