Now that isn't a Mauser, THIS is a Mauser!

Mauser Model 1918 Anti-Tank Rifle -13mm Mauser

Barrel length: 38.75” - Overall length: 66.6” - This 1918 Mauser in fine condition is one of the few not owned by a museum or destroyed in the war. This is a chance of a life time to own Mauser’s biggest rifle. Finish faded to grey on metal with a very even patina overall a few dings on the metal from battle use, no rust. Wood in surprisingly good condition most finish remaining with dings from use, a few chips out of butt stock near tang of receiver. And in front of bolt handle. No bipod included. Serial number in the low 400’s see data sheet in pictures for more information. Bore in very good condition, bright, good rifling. All visible numbers matching – More information about this rifle and it's cartridge can be found at this web address - http://www.ycgg.org/pdfpages/ww1/tgewhr.pdf

There was a tank-gewehre for sale in Australia quite recently (end of March), may still be available. The asking was around 4K Aussie as I recall. Can't vouch for bore condition (these were private museum display pieces) but may be OK. I passed, as I had already blown my meagre budget on some of his other stuff....!

Any local (Australian) interest?

Local store here has one for sale although I don't know how much. Shipping may be a problem, but the store owner has about all the permits he heeds.

I have a bullet from one of these things. Trash-picked it from the garbage can sitting out in front of an old soldier's house when I was a kid. Had both an empty case and the bullet, tho the case is gone now. I always wondered how he came to acquire it in the first place.

O wonder how long before someone actually builds a new rifle for one of these monster rounds. I have heard about big bore afficionados trying to resurrect the 55 Boys in a modern rifle and action. Perhaps the MAuser anti tank round will be the next.

These guys are really crazy IMO and I mean this in a wholly complimentary sense!

We already have the .50 BMG of course which is very similar, but I can imagine there is somebody out there chomping at the bit to resurrect the 13 Mauser.

And unlike the current crop of .50's, it MUST come without a muzzle brake!!

As the .50 BMG is very like a scaled up .30-06, the 13 Mauser is very much like a scaled up 8mm Austrian.
