a pair of guild rifles

both of these are based on small ring 98's, are in 8x57 & have excellent bores.
this one has a color case hardened receiver, bolt & bottom metal with simple engraving on the receiver & bottom metal. also has a ribbed barrel. the insert for the caterpillar front sight is missing so i'll have to make one for it.

this one is in alot rougher shape but i had to have it anyway.
the stock was refinished before i got it & it has more than a few gouges but at least it wasn't sanded very heavily, i'll eventually strip the varnish & put a oil finish back on it.the buttplate was also swaped out for a recoil pad but the stock wasn't cut down so i'll put a metal or horn buttplate back on it. has claw bases & a folding tang sight.

DJ,
Both are nice... put up pictures under the wood when you get a chance. Are there any makers marks, numbers, proofs, etc? In any case, good examples of guild guns. BTw, the tang sight is actually a diopter to sharpen the sight picture, much like the gizmos that go over shooter glasses.

You're right the pad has to go.

DJ,

Very nice rifles. Is that faded case hardening on the first one's receiver? They should make superb restoration projects if you would like to get that done.

Good hunting!

DJ,

I can think of a dozen of us right off that would like to get our grubby paws on those two. :^) Really nice rifles esp. the first one. Throw us some pictures as the work progresses.

i finaly got around to taking some pics of the proofmarks & the other markings under the wood. neither one has any makes names anywhere on them.
here are the markings & proofs from the top rifle.

pic of the top of the receiver, has some simple engraving & the color case hardening isn't as faded as it looks in the pictures

here markings from under the wood on the bottom rifle
