Would it be reasonable to say that perhaps many would be owners simply wont buy a 700 due to the "awareness" of the substantial boot when she bangs?

It's been a while, maybe 15 years or so, but the last price for 700 Nitro ammunition back then was $100 a round IIRC. It is undoubtedly higher now, but I have no idea who loads it. Kynoch maybe? Some of the guys (& gals) that inhabit this and other forums are wealthy beyond my imagination, but at $100+ a pop I suspect even they would get tired of it PDQ. Pilgrim

If you do not reload, it can be expensive, but some ammunition reloading companies will load it for close to 1/2 that price. Still expensive, but better than 100/round.

Mark Sulivan used one a bit for a year or so. I think he sold it as I saw it at SCI about 4? years ago?

I still have my Searcy 700 doudbe that I purchased 5 1/2 years ago and shoot it regularly. I don't really care if it has a history or not. I like it and enjoy having it. While a limited market, I do not see many for sale. The 2 Wilkens sold and Butch has made several more, one was even done in all stainless steel. Big and heavy, but part of the limiting factor may be the cost for a 700 nitro double. They certainly don't give them away. My 700 is 9 lbs lighter than my 4 bore double, so I guess weight is all relative. I know it is not the most practical gun out there, but I enjoy collecting the big bores and shooting them. Not to everyones liking, buy to some. Now about that 2 bore double cartridge gun ...........

Bigdog,

Do you load your ammo for the .700NE? If so, I would enjoy hearing details. I see you hail to Southern Illinois. You need to jump on I-64 and head east for a shoot some time. It's not very far to Southern Illinois. I live about 1.5 miles off I-64 at Virgina exit 21.

Dunno if I have anything big enough to interest you. Biggest boomers I have are my .577 BPE and my .500 NE.

I do some reloading on the 700. I use the regulated load for the rifle which is 160 grains of RL 15 and it gets 1996 ft/sec with a 1000 grain bullet. At the moment over the past couple of months, I have not done any shooting, because my arthuritus in both my hands is flaring up. It comes and goes. When things settle down, maybe we can get together and swap lies and shoot a few guns. I always like looking at guns, they do not have to be huge for me to like them.

If you can afford it and that is what you want ,i say why not ? i dont know why some of the negative comments here .Why own a ferrari ? why own a Rolls Royce ? why own a multi million dollar yacht ?because you want one and can afford it ,buy it !!! we have enough ''ANTIs'' telling us we dont need a gun or anything bigger than a 308 ,the 700 is still an interesting gun !

Bigdog,

A suggestion, my friend - I take six capsules of fish oil every day (two with each meal) and it helps my arthritis. This, of course, in addition to the medicines that my doctor has prescribed for it and the supplements.

Keep shooting and hunting for decades and decades to come!

Mehul and others who might need it:
4 fish oil pills thrice a day is the current, recommended 'load'
Do excuse the OT- Enjoy your shooting!

Asif,

Thanks, buddy! Will double the dosage of fish oil rightaway. Even half the recommended dose worked wonders for me especially through a particularly hard Chicago winter. I also have a problem with my right kneecap which shattered in a motorcycling accident some years ago and had to be reconstructed. Gives me trouble during cold weather, but the fish oil seems to have helped that too.

Cheers!

Guys thanks for the advice on the fish oil. I have it in both hands , one knee and one ankel. It gets really bad at times when I can't hardly pick up a rifle, then sometimes not tood bad. It is amazing how fast it can move around from one joint to another. I am pretty f##ked when it is in both hands at one time. Captkurl, sounds like a plan on the short meeting in Virginia on date sent, look forward to seeing you.

I have a dumb question, what size dose is your pill for taking 4 pills 3 times a day. I have the 1000mg pills, rather large and it says recommended daily dosage is one pill a day. Please let me know the mg size of your pills. thanks a lot.

I would watch the fishoil intake - don't over do it.
One thing I do know is that fishoil makes you bleed like a stuck pig!
I have been in surgeries which had to be bailed out of because of excess bleeding due to fishoil. The main problem for surgeons is that patients think of it as a supplement so don't mention its use pre-op as they would the drugs they are taking.
One more thing to think about while out on the trails. Wouldn't want a normally minor injury to become life threatening through an inability to clot adequately.

ant458, you know of "at least two PH's who use .700s" ....really !!?? Sullivan might have been paid by someone to carry one for a while in one of his DVDs, I will pay you $100 if you can name a PH in the world who uses one of those monstrosities for real use, it was all an ego thing as Holland will happily tell you, it has no use in the real world, best, Mike

Mike we understand that you don't care for the 700 nitro, but why so confrontational with those of us that like it? My 700 nitro has taken an elephant, though I was not the shooter. If we like it for whatever reason, so what. Thats why they make different guns because people like different stuff. Nobody said that the 700 was the most practical gun on the earth. Then again, you don't really need a 600N or a 500n or a 700 AHR,or a 600 overkill or a 4 bore or a 2 bore to hunt with either, but people like them and some of us think they are pretty cool to own. If you don't, thats certainly your right.
