Krieghoff O/U 458 & 375

Xausa said I could post some of his pictures I had and I'm painting with a wide brush before he changes his mind. Here are a couple photos of his Kreighoff in 458. The interchangable set of bbls.s are 375.

It looks like real business. Are you getting good accuracy?

This is not an outfit which I use frequently, but the accuracy is certainly good enough to accomplish what I want out of it. The last time I had it out, I was shooting standing at 8" paper plates at 50 yards, and I had no trouble hitting them repeatedly. It seems to digest everything, full loads, reduced loads, jacketed bullets, cast bullets. No complaints.

The separated barrel arrangement on the .375 set was something Krieghoff experimented with in the early 70's. I always assumed that it had something to do with their experience building the Krieghoff Model 32 O/U shotgun, which also had separated barrels. They tried the configuration I had, then one where the upper barrel was dignificantly heavier than the lower, and finally they went back to conventional barrel configuration with a rib, like the one used with the .458 barrel set. I suspect that the conservative German clientele had more to do with the decision than the performance.

The claw mounts worked perfectly, returning to zero each time the scopes were removed and replaced. I used a 2 1/2 power scope with the .458 barrels and a 3X with the .375 set simply because I wanted to determine instantly which scope went with which set of barrels. If a reliable, low powered variable had been available at the time, I probably would have gone with it.

These multi gauge sets are really taking off again, I have seen much renewed interest in them the past few years. Well done.
