I just bought a Ruger M77 30.06. It has a nice Nikon Monarch on it that I want to put on my 300RUM. The rings are kind of funny. Instead of Alan heads, it has regular flat head screws. Each ring has four screws. They are so tight that I could not get them to budge. I sprayed them down with WD 40, and I'm going to let them soak overnight. Any other suggestions to loosen them up?
Thanks Bryan

You could try putting a fine tipped soldering iron against each screw head to heat it up, then spray again with WD40.
Sometimes old oils can varnish and lock the screws in place..

they must have been installed with a permanent thread lock compound. if the penetrating oil does'nt help, which is a good possibility, use the proper size bit with a cordless impacting driver.

Failing that or of you strip the heads, drill them out, re-thread and replace with larger allen head screws

I bought some BP spray from the automotive store and managed to get one screw out. I have it soaking again tonight. If this doesn't work, I'm going to get some help from a buddy. With my lack of experience I'm gonna get some help instead of screwing up. Thanks For the help!

Try Kroll, its the best penetrating oil I have found to date. Soak overnight- turn them out.

Sound like "Locktite" or some other anti vibration material has been used. Suggest that you check with a machining workshop they may be able to help. Some "Locktite" products only release with heat, whist others with hard impact.??

After a couple of days of soaking in the BP spray, the screws came right out.

Good news. I always read the advice about using loctite on the threads, but on the advice of my gunsmith, I switched to good german mounts and have never needed it since
