The Art of Gunsmithing by Lewis Potter
      #100344 - 26/03/08 10:11 AM

Anyone else has any experience on the mentioned volume? I searched through this forum and also the ‘doublegunshop’, and I was surprised that there were no hits whatsoever.

I found this great book in Foyles’ bookstore in London. Basically the book is on shotguns, but after I had leafed through it briefly between the shelves I noticed that there’s (fortunately) very little info specifically on o/u actions. Furthermore, when introducing general gunsmithing techniques the author uses in most of the cases side by sides as examples. There’s also very much info that is applicable to side by side rifles. Those observations were actually the main reason behind my fast decision to buy the book.

My experience on gunsmithing literature is rather limited, but among those books that I’ve got or have seen, this one is one of the most intriguing.

I am one of those ‘wannabe converters' of a SxS shotgun to double rifle, who will definitely go for it “some day”, and for me the combined reading of Potter, Brown, Gray, Wright and some others is almost the best free time activity that I can think of.

So, the main idea of this message was A) to draw your attention to this book, and B) to find out if any of you more knowledgeable have seen/read it and could give some comments on it.

The more complete bibliographic information is as follows: The Art of Gunsmithing – The Shotgun, by Lewis Potter (Foreword by Chris Price), The Crowood Press, 2006.

Regards,
Saku
