Modern Hammer SXS Doubles
      #100332 - 26/03/08 08:24 AM

What companies/smiths are currently building SXS hammer doubles? I have a very nice Ferlib round body double in 9.3X74R and have an Adamy-built sidelock hammer in a 416 Rigby in transit and scheduled for delivery by the weekend. I was wondering if any of you have current production or post WWII hammer doubles or know who is building them -- as opposed to simply listing them at their website as 'available' but something not seen outside of a few books.

So, who else has one? Failing that, who has seen one out 'in public' (not in a nice book showing one built by Peter Hofer, etc.) They are an elegant and enjoyable gun, but am I simply in the minority? (I know I am in the minority when it comes to Rotary Round Action doubles, as only Hoening makes those and the wait is a long or longer than most British bespoke makers, but that's for another day.)

Dave

I'm aware of SIACE hammer rifles being made now as well as Pedersoli's and a limited run of ASTAR's is 45-70.
I know there will be others.

Just today I read again in a hunting magazine from 1995 the test of a very nice double in 9,3x74R with exposed hammers made by Armurerie Freylinger, Luxembourg. I visited their website but my French is not good enough to work through it. This was really a well made double for a very reasonable price, at least this is what the article said.

My French is non-existent, and my German only marginal. I'll see if Babelfish will help. Thanks Dave

This is better than babelfish (unless its been updated) - http://www.google.co.uk/language_tools?hl=en
It can also translate whole webpages if you type in the URL

Zanardini build them in Italy. Their website is dated, though, but you could call or e-mail them and get more information.

Now that you have the information, you;re going to have to solemnly swear to post pictures over here when you get your rifle.

Yes, yes. It is due in Saturday. It may take a day or so to get it home and cleaned up after I do some break in shooting. I will get that and the Ferlib photographed. I should be able to get the Hoening posted if you are interested. Dave

Thanks. I hadn't been to their site recently, but now looking at it, the hammer gun is a single barrel, not a SXS. If they make the latter, it doesn't seem to be listed at the site. Dav

If you go to "the company" section, there is a picture of a hammer double action though.
Very nice guns! Does anybody know the pricing on these or if there is a US importer?

Dave,

As Huvius points out, there is a picture of their double action on the "Company" page. That said, the website has not been updated in five years or more. I have no idea why.

I do know that they make hammer double rifles, though. Their biggest market is GErmany for these rifles.

And, yes, do post pictures of the Hoenig rifle here along with those of your other guns. All pictures would be welcome. Thanks in advance for sharing them on the forums.

Good hunting!

Huvius,

As far as I know there is no US importer for their guns.

Thanks for finding the picture of their action on their website.

Good hunting!

Sorry, missed it the first time around. Nice guns. Dave
