My Entry Level Double Rifle.
      #99057 - 12/03/08 11:24 PM

I know that the Baikal over and under rifle isn't what most guys consider a fine gun, but I had to order one when I found out that a company had them on clearance for $279.00US. Heck, you can't buy anything these days for that price. Well hopefully I get one that at least works. It is in 30-06...one of my favorites.

Congratulations!

Have fun with the rifle, get it out and hunt with it -- let us know how it works for you.

Since I have been wanting to build a rifle, I decided to pick up two of these. One for shooting and one to mess with!

I went back to the company's website and found out thet the guns are marked EAA and are the ones with the deluxe walnut checkered stock. I was expecting a hardwood stock.

How about posting the company's website here for others who might want these guns?

Congrtaulations on your purchase and I hope you have a great time hunting hogs and gators with her!

The website is www.cdnninvestments.com
You have to download the pdf catalogue and go through the pages to see the add. There is an 800 number on their webpage, so I say just call them. They were super nice on the phone.

Tarawa,

Thanks. I have ordered some scopes from CDNN in the past and they have been good people to work with. I shall download their latest catalogue rightaway.

Do let us know how your rifle turns out and very good hunting!

I just talked to Tracy at CDNN and ordered a 30-06 (only caliber). It will be shipped tomorrow and price with shipping is just under $300. I asked if it looked and shot like my W-R 450-400, built in 1904. Heall yeas, he said! I figure it might go bang and hit a barn door when pressed firmly against the latch. He has LOTS of them.

Report and photo to follow upon arrival.

I had two of these ship to my local FFL. When I walked in the door my FFl asked "How much did you pay for these?". He had to open the boxes to get the serial numbers. Then he commented on the great wood. They are nice looking rifles. I will post some pics later.

Ok, got mine too. Looks just like Tarawa's photos.

Couple of points
1. Has the build quality of a Nigerian AK-47.
2. Fairly sure it will outlast me as like all Russian engineering, it's built to work, not pose.
3. Real dirty. Mine was built in 1998 and shows some surface rust, chips, scratches, etc.
4. The enclosed paperwork says it had a preservative applied. Took me over 1 hour to clean off all the brown gunk on the outside and bore.
5. Action is tight. it takes a bit of ooomph to cock.
6. $290??? Wonderful deal. Evidently CDNN has a bunch of them. Call Terry at 1-800-588-9500.

All in all, I think I sure got a lot more for my money that I thought I would.

Will I shoot it?

Stay tuned.

I'm off to darkest Botswana Saturday morning. If me and a big Cape Buffalo meet and my Ruger .458 Lott works as advertised, I'll be back April 16. The PH seems to think he knows where an over-42" hangs out. Let's hope, as the last buf I got was stolen while in Zimbabwe.

I will keep you updated on the center rib that I am working on. It will give the rifle a better look without affecting the lower barrel's adjustability.
