Hello all, I am trying to buy some .470 NE Federal ammo from the guys in a shop in Madrid. They have it in stock, both soft and solid but I am trying to establish whether it has Woodleigh bullets or the other Trophy bonded and sledgehammer and my spanish is not good enough. Does the ammo box have this information printed on it is my question ? Then I can give them an idea where to look. I don't want them to ship it to my local dealer and find its the wrong stuff. As an aside, my double I believe is regulated for Woodleigh (I haven't received it yet). Do you chaps think there will be a noticeable difference with the Federal Trophy bullets ?? Have to test it out I suppose, best, Mike

Mike

The differences are indeed noticeable, the woodleigh bullet profiles follow the traditional round nosed style whereas the TBB have invariably the Sledgehammer soild (naval bronze construction /(brass colour) usually with a wide flat meplat impressed with a letter "T" the soft nosed bear claws do however closely resemble the woodleigh softs to a degree save they usually have asmaller amount of lead exposed and also they exhibit a small shoulder on the shank where the ogive begins or at least they do on the .458 bore size, also from memory the Federal cartons usually identify the make and bullet style used in that loading.

As a fact find you could log onto both woddleighs website and Speer who own the name Trophy bonded and look at the pictured bullets, this should help give you a workging guide to bullet styles and makes. Also from experience with chaps here with .470 doubles, those regulated with the Woodleighs do not always shoot well or to the same point of impact when used with Trophy bonded bullets, each rifle is of course different and as ever it is always worth trying, but as a general rule, if the rifle has been regulated with a particular load you are usually best advised to stick with it.

hope this helps

Mike

I believe that the flap end of the boxes do indeed list the bullet type, anoter plan maybe to visit Federal ammo's website and take a note of the factory code for each bullet they load in .470 then check with your distributor what he has in stock.

Mike
The boxes indeed come with the information of the type of bullet and the weight.
A short time ago I bought several boxes of Federal 470 NE in Madrid, they were Trophy Bonded softs and Sledge Hammers solids . They also had in stock Federals and Norma brand with Woodleigh bullets, solids and softs. The gunshop was named ARGALI in the street Lopez de Hoyos Nš27 , the other gunshop I visited was ALVAREZ ,located infront of the MELIA CASTILLA Hotel, but the prices were better in ARGALI.There is a new line of NORMA called PH, and are far more expensive.
Once I was told that doubles built in Europe ,for the local market were regulated with Normas, and the doubles destined for USA were regulated with Federals, I has been unable to verify the truth of that.
