Anyone seen a Holland & Holland stretched at the hook?
      #97816 - 28/02/08 06:59 AM

"Aussie Pete," from Australia of course, told me that he had seen a number of Holland & Holland double rifles, with so-called hidden third fastener, stretched at the hook, but that he never saw same condition from a Rigby with rising bite third fastener, and, I believe the same can be said of a good British double with the Greener crossbolt, if well fitted and tight as it should be. Anyone seen any similar such damage done to a double, and, if so, please describe what damage took place and what type third fastener it had.

I had a Holland 465 that needed to have the hinge pin replaced because of wear. This rifle had shot over 1000 Elephants in the hands of it's previous owner. Prior to that is a question as it was made in 1912 and sold to a farmer in Natal and somehow ended up in Zambia.

I have had a couple of Greener shotty's that needed pins replaced and have had a Greener in 360#2 that a prior owner had shimmed the hook.

I have never owned a rising bite Rigby so can't comment but I think it probably would eventually loosen up also after a few thousand rounds.

I am not impressed by the Greener crossbolt or the Kirsten lock for keeping tightness. I have seen to many of each loosen up at the bolt and in fact have a Drilling with Kirsten bolt that needs to be tightened right now.

I agree - not a fan of the greener cross bolt, they all seem to be loose IMHO.

I have seen Rigby's that are slightly loose.

Hollands seem to hold up well IMHO.
