bwananelson:
I think you may be over-engineering the problem. While many owners of scoped doubles will advocate sighting the scope for one barrel, this is just silly IMHO, and entirely defeats the purpose of owning and shooting a double rifle.

Sight it for the centre of the composite group, just as if you were sighting it at the centre of a bolt-rifle group. Only difference is, the group will be a little larger.

Sight it at the distance you prefer for the cartridge's balllistics and the likely hunting ranges, just as if it were a bolt-rifle.

Simple really.

I have 2 scoped doubles, [both sxs, but that does not matter] a 9,3x74R and a 450/400.

I have both scopes sighted in to the center of the two barreled groups.
Both of my doubles shoot good enough to permit this.

With my scoped 9,3 I have hit a coyote at 281 yards with both barrels, and a kudu at a little over 300 yards with both barrels.

Shoot your scoped double at 100 yards, and 200 yards,[and 300 yards if possible], 3 right and 3 left, and tell us how she shoots.

ahh we think the same,we enjoy the same calibers,i am getting a 450/400 and was debating to scope or not to scope, must try it out.i do have access to a longer range but only once a month.i can shoot a single tube well at long ranges will try the 9.3 frim what i have been reading i thought i would be restricted to two hundred yards or so.but that also confused me with balistics near the 375 h+h i would expect more thanks for the feedback.what scope did you decide on.

I have 2 scopes for the 9,3 a 2.5-8 Leupold with the heavy duplex, and a Swarovski 1.5-6x42 with the circle dot reticle. Both in the Chapuis pivot mounts.

On the 400 I have a S&B 1-4 with the illiminated reticle, in claw mounts.
I highly recommend you put a scope in QD mounts on your 400.

I can do anything with my sciped 400 double that I could do with a scoped 416 Rem Mag bolt rifle.

I would have to go back through my notes to give group size in inches.

When I get back fron my next trip I am going to do some more distance shooting and will post my results.

If I can get steady I have no problem hitting deer sized game out to 300 yards with the 9,3.

If I am not steady I just do not shoot.

I have never turned a shot down while hunting with a double, that I thought I could have made with a bolt rifle.
