Great report and thanks much for the pictures, too!

"Formerly of these forums"?? There must have been a great struggle over who got to keep the wine as it is obvious that somebody gave Erik a pair of "black eyes"!!

Erik the Norseman, has been told to 'get lost' many times but he is too good a navigator! The "these forums" are a different forums from NE. Where Erik is incognito and must like a SAS trooper have his eyes blacked out.

Gabriel

Thanks for the enjoyable story and photos. Enjoyed the humour in your post as well. Very worrying company you keep though.

Did you get to open it though? That wine would go wonderfully with boar ragu.

JB is a very wise man.

Congratulations on your hunt and game taken.

PS I shifted your photos to my server as the originating server was blocking them from loading to NE.

Thanks for the help with the pics Nitro, it was a very enjoyable weekend.

I love stalking game, but the adrenaline rush you get when a sounder of boar burst out from cover in your general direction is pretty hard to beat!

Most hunters had specialised 'driven hunting' rifles such as double rifles (9.3x74, 8x57JRS), short barelled Blasers (yuk) and also some 3 shot semi-autos with red dot/holosight type scopes.

P.S. The bottle of wine has pride of place at JB's home and will not be opened until a special, read SPECIAL occasion.

Needless to say, Gabriel and I were not special enough.

Instead, we were forced to eat French peasant food, such as Foie Gras, and drink Champagne.

As mentioned elsewhere on NE, it was a great weekend with very enjoyable company.

Erik

Erik,

Sounds like a real hardship trip

Congrats on the trip! One day I've got to get over to see JB.

Somebody should tell JB that Nitro's wine has a shelf life of only 90 days. After that it starts turning back into Blackbery syrup.

That may be true, but, it's excellent on pancakes or waffles.

If that's the case, then my children would say that it ages very well!

This wine has been stored in an acceptable cellar for almost 3 years and there are no flies with this wine.
You all are jealous.

Ha, blackberry wine indeed. I keep those for visiting Americans from Washington state.

Made from some of the oldest vines in existence in the world today. Minimum of eigthty years to over a hundred year old vines. The Barossa Valley in Australia has the oldest vines in the world some being close to 150 years old, the Barossa never having had a phylloxera outbreak which decimated the vineyards of most of the world in the late 1800's and since.

Unfortunately that is not "my" wine but one of two bottles I sent to JB in thanks for an excellent and unexpected bottle of wine arriving in my post earlier.
