Different Kind of Safari Souvenir

I can't be the only person who sometimes hangs on to brass from rounds used on a particular hunt. I had someone make this for me from a piece I brought back from my trip to Zimbabwe this past June -- a .458 Win Mag fountain pen with Mopane cap:

I will admit that the Lott has an advantage over the Win Mag in this arena, but despite being a fraction shorter than ideal I enjoy using it regularly. He made a Mopane rollerball pen for my Dad too.

It has me thinking -- I need to use the .416 Rem Mag next time and see how that works -- or maybe the .375 H&H.

[Apologies to those of you who may have already seen this elsewhere.]

No problem here -- I had seen several other cartridge pens but not one this large or with the fountain pen nib and Mopane.

Have fun with it and post some pictures when yours is done.

Don't take it in your pocket on the next flight however.

No worries -- I do not want to explain it to security!

Don't show up to work with that puppy.

I have a knack of doing incredibly stupid things. I took a .470 cartridge into work (major finacial institution) to show my buddy. His eyes damn near pop out-o-his head. At that point I knew I had stepped on my dick good. Without say a word I bee-lined to my car. We never mentioned it again.

I once had a cartridge in my pocket and one of the dickheads thought it could "explode at any moment". A real lot of ignorance out there.

I have yet to have anyone view my fountain pen as a threat here in Texas...

Charles,

I liked that so much, it inspired me to do a few searches. Those with access to a small lathe, might like to try this.... although I don't vouch for the tracer thing! - better to use a mono solid I reckon!
