Malarone for malaria
      #9439 - 19/02/04 02:25 AM

A lot of health information sites here in the U.S. a suggesting Malarone as a malaria prophalaxis in Africa. Interestingly enough, when I check African and European sites, there is no mention of it. What's up?

Most of our clients take Lariam...I take Lariam...it works for me without any side effects, Malarone causes me to sunburn something terrible and I don't normally sunburn at all....

Some cannot take Lariam and some cannot take Malarone and for that reason everyone should try both before going on Safari....

Our Military takes Lariam....and a recent report indicated some form of poor reaction in 1 out of 20,000...

Lariam is much cheaper than Malarone..Malorone has to be taken daily and Lariam once per week...21 day supply of Laraim is $25.00 and Malarone is $180.00...I think that is the reason most Europeans take either a form of Lariam or they take Doxycycline...

I won't argue the pros and cons of this, as it is about choices and only you can determine what you want to take.

Larium lays me out like having a severe case of the flu, so I do not use it. I prefer doxycycline because it causes me no ill effects, and it is also plague prophylaxis. And yes, they have plague in some countries in Africa, such as Zambia, Cameroon...
