Morning all, amongst other projects I currently have a USA custom gunsmith building me a single shot in .30-06 on a Martini Hagn action. My question is about stocking. My shotguns are stocked to my measurements and I understand I am going to have to change some measurements as this will primarily be a scoped rifle. My question regards LOP, it seems ridiculously short in some US made rifles. My LOP in double shotguns is 14 7/8ths". I was going to go with 14 1/4 on the rifle, any thoughts ? BTW, my other measurements are
cast off 1/4
drop to comb 1 3/8ths
drop to heel 2 3/8ths
any thoughts on what these measurements should be for a scoped rifle (with lowish mounts)

Hi Mike - that will be a beautiful rifle. One of these days I plan to get a Hagn in .303

I don't know what the "official" line is, but I don't see why you shouldn't use the same LOP. I shoot 14 7/8 in shotguns too and just about every factory rifle I have owned or shot has been too short for me, especially American ones. I have always preferred rifles with stocks 14 1/2 or longer, but so far I have not been fitted for a rifle stock, as I have with shotguns...

Mike,

Now that you've whetted our appetite, shouldn't be showing your projects off posting pictures here?

The Hagn promises to be an incredibly beautiful gun - all Hagns inevitably are - and you must show her off here.
